Couple of toons

Been a while since I posted anything, so here's a couple of vids of the 2 songs I did for Novembers SSGW. I particularly enjoyed playing these

The first one was the tune for the month - Tennessee Waltz, (or as it's known in Gartcosh - The Lost Chord ). Speeded up the tempo to 100bpm, based the 1st verse on Richard Burtons Tab and the 2nd verse on Greg Cutshaws Tab, so thanks to them for the work they put into it.



The second tune was to be a Christmas Carol of our choice, so my wife chose - God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Wanted to stay true to my Gartcosh handle on this one, so it's a touch on the "Leftfield" side.

Having had another chance to look at these, I've just noticed the nice tight, economic picking style you've got going on. I generally observe you from a side view and I've not clocked the finer points of your playing. Cool!

Hey guys, many thanks. Looks like I should continue with the Leftfield route then

TBH I enjoyed playing Tennessee Waltz more as it was more of a challenge and I learned a lot of new ways to do things. Appreciate that it is more of a ballad really but it was fun to play with a bit of an up tempo "bounce".

Not sure if my picking technique is how you describe it Danny, it's more of a cobbled together style. With the 12 strings I find that I have to keep the bottom strings damped a lot of the time to avoid stray notes & noises which restricts what you can do with the rest of your RH, so I tend to have the bottom part of my palm permanently damping and using the top part and parts of my fingers to damp what I'm playing. Often I damp too hard down the bottom and the B string hits off the pickup pole - thump!

Anyway I'm loving playing at the moment, can't stop.

(Not as bad as John D yet though, recording in the middle of the night )

Good on yer, Geoff. I thought Frankie Lane was going to come in with the verse on 'God Rest Ye...!' Nice playing, good and interesting arrangements. More left field!!
