This is where you can rest a while and discuss anything - doesn't have to be steel guitar related!

Personally, I would prefer not to see a set of 'rules'. This isn't some kiddie place (unlike a couple of the forums I moderate). It's mainly peopled by adults with a sense of responsibilty and a built-in knowing of what is right and wrong - the average age of a psg player is not 16!! Besides which, it's my observation that, even if you do publish rules, nobody will actually bother to read them. This is supported by long experience of many forums and mail-lists where it is patently obvious that a poster has not done so.

The secret is to let people use their own judgement, but jump quickly on anyone who goes beyond what the majority of us would consider acceptable - as was done in this particular instance. I moderate a forum wih no rules, but constant moderator coverage (there's more than one of us) and it works a charm with very few problems. I see no reason why this should not be the same.

Perhaps I was a bit hasty, it was just that I was quite shocked by the sheer nastiness of steve honest's post, and my immediate thinking was that, if that's how this forum's gonna be, then I don't want to be part of it.

However, it looks like the moderators have got a handle on this sort of thing, and the rest of the membership seem to be stand-up guys, so my brief hiatus is over, and normal service can resume :D

My reference to "Adolph" was merely to dispel the previous writers myth that just because someone has a following, it must give a positive aspect to the subject. It was not particularly relevant to any particular posting, just the previous writer and was not written in malice but in the hope the it could be seen that this point is not part of a valid argument.( In my opinion of course) How could anyone in their right mind read into this that I was comparing Susan to Hitler - you couldn't make it up....

To infer that it was directed at Susan is outrageous. Reading later postings, I had praised her musicianship and my only point was reiterating the classification of the first clip as music, sound effects or noise. This was, I think, what the original posts were about on the last Forum.

In terms of music (that's what we WERE talking about) I'd say having a following is a postive aspect to the subject.

You got that right.

errr... how about the fact that you brought him up in a direct response to my post commenting on Susan Alcorn.

Music is no different from any other aspect of life. In fact the whole crux of this controversy in earlier posts was about whether whether clip1 WAS music.

Glad you understand, but why do you still infer (below) that I was comparing Susan to Hitler?

Perhaps you might like to enlighten us as to how you think Susan could ever be like Hitler. How does you mind make that connection?
Perhaps you should think along the lines of real life an not Politically Correct ideology. It will make you a happier person.

I will not be intimidated by anyone on here, especially someone reading evil into where evil doesn't exist.
I'll say once more - I praised Susan's MUSICAL ability. - Am I getting through?

I disagree but fair enough, that's your opinion.

The Invisible Man wrote:Perhaps you might like to enlighten us as to how you think Susan could ever be like Hitler.

You tell me, you're the one who keeps bringing him up. I was not offended by 'the remark' and I could see the point you were trying to make. All I'm saying is the fact you brought him up in a dicussion about a musician might be open to misinterpretation, and it seems it was by some.

The Invisible Man wrote:I will not be intimidated by anyone on here.

Intimidating? You made a dismissive remark about a previous post of mine. That's your right. I responded to it, that's my right. You asked a question about why your comment was being taken in the wrong way by some. I told you why I thought that might be. If that intimidates you, then don't post.

As for being happy, I'm very happy thanks. Have a nice weekend. :D

What a pity that this topic has resulted in the banning of one individual, and a member deciding to leave the forum. It is possible to articulate a point of view without having to resort to writings that are likely to cause offence. A great shame.

Differing taste and differing minds (all of high intelligence) are indeed the lifeblood of forums but I feel we run the risk of going further off topic here, the original offence has long since been addressed.

Sounds like a good note to end this one on, let’s draw a line under it for now guys and thank you to all 'posters'!

Let’s all have a great weekend!
