I have just been informed that my dear friend Ron Bennett passed away today.
Rest in peace Ron and thank you for years of help to steel players everywhere.
Hope to see some of you in Inverness, will post arrangements when i have info.

Very saddened to Hear of Ronnie's passing .
Whilst I never had the pleasure of meeting Him I know what a diamond He was to the Steel guitar scene in Britain. Sincere condolences to Family and Friends.

So sorry to read this. I ordered an left handed Sd10 pedal steel from Ronnie at one of the Newbury festivals. I still have it and although I gave up a few years ago, I'm considering taking it up again. Sincere condolences to Ronnie's wife, family and friends.

Oh no I was aware that he was an ill man but like all just hoped that he would recover, this is so sad. As already said he was a big name in the UK steel fraternity and a fine steel guitarist.

This is tremendously sad to hear. Not only have I had some great telephone chats with Ron, with him putting up with my usual rambling on, Ron also had a great relationship with my dad and brother Ed over the years. A very kind man and a legend of steel guitar.

My thoughts are with Ron's family and friends. Rest in peace.

I have deliberated over this post but it was good to see Ronnie recently when I visited the hospital in Inverness a few weeks back. (I'm sure Sheena won't mind me sharing these photos now.)

He was in reasonable form; in fact I think it may have been his best day. The young physiotherapist arrived shortly after I did and was keen to get him on the move, so after some chat between us all she got him on the Zimmer and over to the window (a very big achievement as it turned out!) He was in good form though it was obviously a struggle. Shortly after Sheena arrived and we had a good blether together then in a bit a young doctor arrived to ‘talk business’ so I felt it was time for me to go.

I have known of Ronnie for many years but did not have the close association of you guys south of the border and our paths didn’t cross in his playing days, we did meet however in Ireland when he and Sheena had a stand at the ISGF.

I’m not sure if I will make the funeral as I have a lot of commitments coming up and it depends on the date but I know members of our steel family have already said they will be there ( JD and Barry that I know of.)

I was just so pleased to have spent time with him when he could still chat and reflect (as best I could) on all the PSG community and assure him of all our wishes for him, I believe he was ‘well chuffed.’ I did tell the staff he was VIP in our world, treat him with respect!

Please keep Sheena in your thoughts and prayers and RIP Ronnie, a lovely man.

Great shame to hear this. Ronny had been on the scene longer than most and made a great contribution to the Steel World.
His ideas, workmanship and personality will leave an indelible mark, not to be forgotten.

I am so sad to hear this. I never had the pleasure of meeting Ronnie but had quite a few phone chats
with him and his wife when he was building my left handed PSG about 5 years ago.

I have had so much fun and pleasure with it playing along to some old school Country & Western records.
Ronnie and his Wife were the most humble and helpful people you could ever wish to do business with.

I send my sincere condolences to his Wife and family.

Ron's funeral will be on Monday, 7th Sept. at 12.00 in the funeral home of John Fraser & Son, Chapel Street, Inverness; thereafter to Tore Cemetery. Sheena.
