You would not believe the guitars that are seized up because nylon hex tuners are cranked up and all over the place, lots of times by new players (understandably) but the principles are not always grasped by those who have been on the instrument for forty years, (I say this from a conversation in Dublin recently with a veteran player of stage and screen, some principles are just not known)
The Nylon Hex Tuners are what you use to tune the guitar. WRONG!
Their purpose?
Fine tuning only! To sweeten the note, higher or lower.
So: If the ‘E to Eb’ is out and the 4th string won’t raise to the ‘C’ pedal pitch…. Etc., etc..,
Take all the nylon tuners back to ‘JUST TOUCHING THE CHANGER FINGER’ and no more.
Then your work starts here!
Pull the pull rod on P1/P2/P3, etc. by hand at the bellcrank or grips on the crossbar…..
Is the note going where it should?? Is ‘B’ going to ‘C#’ on P1 on strings 10 & 5 .
(No!)
Then the position of the stop screw or bellcrank height needs changing? As per the graphic!
The other issue can be spring tension! On the lowers!!
If springs are slackened off too much the string will never return to pitch!
Study the attached graphic (when you have nothing else to do!) It might just save you a load of grief!
