Looking for good first steel

Hello,

I'm a pro dobro player with a long time yearning for a pedal steel. With children starting school in September I might finally have some time to dedicate to learning, so am tentatively starting the search. I'm not 100% set on what I'm looking for other than budget keeps me to the lower end of the market, but it does need to be a solid playable instrument that should last me a good while. If anyone is selling anything that would fit the bill, please let me know! I've owned a psg before, but it was extremely clunky and just not enjoyable to learn on so I reluctantly sold it a few years ago but I haven't quite given up the dream yet! Thanks!

Hi Laura, you definitely want a solid instrument, from your post, your previous PS was clunky and not enjoyable to play. This was similar to my first pedal steel, it sounded OK but was a bit of a fight to play it.

After that experience I almost gave it up, thankfully I persevered and bought a Pro instrument, a Carter 12 string Universal, the difference in tone and playability was black and white.

I upgraded from that eventually, but the Carter was a great guitar and very enjoyable to play.

Hi Laura I have a couple of pedal steel guitars for sale one is a Carter 4 pedals and 5 knee levers the other is a Ray Line PSG. Ray Line worked for Sho Bud then made his own guitars. This guitar is from early 1980’s is a beautiful guitar with a lot of sustain it has 3 pedals and 4 knee levers I had to add 2 knee levers as it only came with 2 knee levers. Thanks all for the help/offers. I'm now the proud owner of a White S10. Day two and completely obsessed with it. What an amazing instrument!
