Passing of Buzz Evans one of the best on Steel or Guitar

Postby JohnDavisStringsHere » Tue Feb 11, 2025 7:09 pm

If you search you tube for Buzz playing all on his own in LA. The man was legend, I just learned of his passing from Micky Adams his recording of "My Mothers Eyes" is beautiful as was his tastful guitar playing on The Beatles "Yesterday"life
has not been kind to Buzz losing his sight at the peak of his talent but what a fantastic player he was
Rest in peace Buzz

Saddened to hear of Buzz passing. He was a superb steel player and also a six string guitarist.
We did a short tour a few years ago after having been at the Dallas show and We saw and met buzz with His partner (Ross Evans) they were called two smooth.Check their demo on U tube. Buzz played the pink panther theme
R.I.P buzz.

I met Buzz in Austin, Tx where he was at the Broken Spoke with the Bo Porter Band. Great steel player and a superb lead guitarist. He hasn't enjoyed good health for many years now, even losing his sight some time ago. He loved talking steel guitar and came to my table and chatted away like an old friend. This is such sad news. RIP Buzz.

I took this photo of Buzz at the Broken Spoke in Austin, Tx. He was a funny chap to talk with, and once he knew that there was another steel player in the audience he started to play to the gallery. He knocked me out with his swing playing, and as he was doubling up on steel and lead guitar, he had plenty of chances to display his talents. He kept his hat on most of the evening, but he took it off for a couple of minutes when he came and sat at our table during a break. He had a similar amount of hair to me (poor chap). He's a real icon in the pedal steel world in the USA. Here is a photo that I took of him on his Mullen G2 that night.

A big thank you to Billy Murdoch for the tip on Buzz's duo Too Smooth, I found this YouTube clip. Some knockout playing from start to finish.
