Telonics or Hilton pedal wanted

Postby Haddock » Thu Oct 13, 2022 5:47 pm

Hi All
Is anyone selling or willing to sell a Telonics or a Hilton? I’ve had an ‘incident’ with my Hilton and need a replacement in a hurry. Cash waiting!
Cheers

Panic over, I just bought a Telonics. Final bit of convincing was when I heard the steel plugged straight in without any pedal at all. That’s the sound I want! I knew already that the Hilton isn’t as transparent as they say as for a short time I had two of them and they both sounded different. Let’s hope the Telonics is as good as they say. At that price, I now need a wee lie down……..

Hi Calum
I bought a Hilton many moons ago. I thought it was great, until it let me down one night at a concert. I didn't have a spare pot pedal with me unfortunately. I kept getting a God almighty awful popping noise every time I pressed the pedal down. I was so pissed off that it had let me down. I contacted Keith Hilton the following morning and he knew what the problem was immediately. It was a capacitor in the pedal that was sitting up too proudly, and the upper half of the pedal was touching the cap. I fixed it easily, but wasn't happy.

When I was in the Dallas steel show the following year, I used a Telonics amp and pedal on the main stage that Dave Beaty very kindly loaned me. The pedal was wonderful - with a great taper and the axle throw was just right for me. Needless to say I bought a beautiful silver anodised one from one of Dave's agents in the US shortly afterwards. Doing an A-B comparison with the Telonics and Hilton, I found there was a slight bit of colouration in the Hilton's tone compared to the Telonics. I've still got the Hilton, but the Telonics is my go to volume pedal plus I always take a Goodrich pot pedal as a back-up.

No doubt the Telonics gear isn't cheap, but my amp (TCA500) and pedal haven't let me down once.
