One of my fav. Ray Price tracks. Help with intro?

Postby JohnDavisStringsHere » Tue May 17, 2022 6:53 am

I believe it is Emmons on this track but you can also find a great version by Bobby Flores with Jim Loessberg on steel. I did ask if I could get some help to play that intro but none was forthcoming so I spent a bit of time trying to work it out myself, I am not saying that what I have found is the same or even musically correct but happy to share it if anyone is interested ?

Fairly tricky manoeuvring there, John. That is a great intro, in fact the whole track is a great example of steel accompaniment.
Thanks for the post, and the how to.

Very nice John! I have a different/ (hopefully) easier way to play the ascending double stops if you want it mate!

John, I hope this helps mate. I’ve done a *very* quick DI recording of it. Excuse the tone, playing, touch, and tuning - it’s quite late and I was in a bit of a rush! I play it through slowly after playing it at full speed.

Basically, you only need A+B pedals. It’s quite complicated to explain but the double stops start at the 8th fret, pedals UP, strings 8 and 6. Then it’s mostly chromatic with combinations on A on its own, and A+B together. The string combinations are mainly 7+6, 6+5, and 5+4.

This way sounds pretty close to how it was played originally!

Hope it helps mate.

Brad that is Teeeriffic! I would say a carbon copy of what you can see Jim Loessberg play on the Bobby Flores version, This is what our forum needs more of, genuine help that even I can follow thank you very much. :D

As an aside from Brad's Brill.help I would like to say this, 161 views in a short space of time on a forum that looked like it was falling asleep! all you guys on the side that I know will benefit from this and any other help that we can rustle up if you only sent Bob our Guv. a fiver to help keep this afloat like I am going to do now because I value the help this forum can give us and we need more players of this beautiful instrument, intro's, turnarounds, solo's bring it on please
