While the jury's definitely not out for me on the bars, it is for the strings. The main problem for me with nickel is that the wound strings go dead far too quickly, and I'm a stingy bastard who doesn't want to be forking out £20+ for 12 strings every few weeks. Also, I think the real low strings on the U12 (54 and 70) have more tone than nickel (or something like that). Not sure what I think really. And most string noise/zing can be avoided by playing properly!!! I just happen to like it sometimes. I once recorded a track where I close mic'd the pedals and levers so that the clattering virtually drowned-out the sound of the steel. So you see I have form.
