Finally getting back to Gartcosh. Video Added!!

Hi guys, it has been a long time coming, but finally is has arrived.
The Scottish Steel Guitar Workshop opens its doors again tomorrow evening ( Tuesday 28th September) at 7.00 pm.
Due to covid restrictions the following rules must be adhered to.
Masks must be worn when entering and moving about the hall.
Hand sanitizer will be there for your use
Only1 person at a time in the toilet ( hmmmm hello sailor)
Social distancing must be adhered to, we do that anyway.
We must keep a track and trace register, i.e Name, address, post code and contact number.
Other than these few rules it will be fun as usual, it will be good to see some old faces again ( some a good lot older than others).
Oooooooooh ah cannae wait, ah'm soooooooo excited.

Yaass! at last
Now I’ll get to hear my new Guitar and amp, I’ve been suppin porridge to give me the strength to cart them into the hall, I’ll even hide my good looks with a mask and put my name on a sheet.
I’ve got L plates ready but unfortunately due to the COVID restrictions I’ll not be able to borrow Mr Gamble’s butchers apron when I butcher any tunes that I attempt, but I’ve got a Mullen you know and according to Willie it’s that good it can play itself and it will need to, as I’m not going to give it any help!
At last I’ve got a really good reason to decline Lord Donald’s offer regards the use of his comb, some COVID restrictions do have added benefits!
Let’s all enjoy an evening at the masked ball despite some of our cards being well and truly marked!

Looking forward to seeing familiar faces But if I do YER BREAKING THE RULES!!!

Gartcosh September 28
This meeting of the SSGW “ masked ball “ was a success with a good turnout including two surprise guests from other parts of the United Kingdom, John Davis CEO of Bum Notes Incorporated, flew in from Englandshire and Ted Nesbit of Rainbow Music ( he sells Mullens you know) arrived from Ireland, his jacket was dry so I don’t know how he got here, their contributions to the evening were enjoyed by all as they both played various guitars and Willies guitar was just the right size for Ted ( it’s a Mullen you know!)

The meeting started with a minutes silence for our late brother Reg Sutherland and Donny, Willie, Davie and Bob played Reg’s favourite tune “ I’m so lonesome I could cry “
I think everyone had gone “stir“ crazy as order was a bit more difficult for Lord Donald to maintain than normal, but with a raised voice and a few threats he managed it, however order and silence did prevail when his Lordship read out an email that I had received from Geoff Noble regarding his forthcoming treatment regime for bone cancer and Jiffie can be assured that all the “ pantomime cast “ are fully behind him and will be supporting him if necessary during his long period of treatment.

Hunners had a welcome return and was in good form despite being sandwiched between an Emmons Le Grande and a Mullen, although he did say that the Mullen was a wonderful guitar and added that the fact as his taxi driver was playing one only influenced his statement in a minor way but he did sound good with the amplifier and speaker that he was using!
A good night was had by all and the highlight of the evening for me was Davie carrying a speaker as he “ legged it “ out of the hall with a big grin on his face!

I am so sorry to have missed, what sounds like an epic, and certainly emotional, night at Gartcosh. What a great surprise, too, to have Messrs Davis and Nesbit droping by for the jam, nice one gents.

It was a full on day yesterday! Getting security set up for our two VIP's arrival at the airport from The South and N Ireland.

Much banter throughout the day then to Gartcosh; the home of all that squeaks, I would not like to be one of the local householders when we turn up!!

Joking apart the efforts of John Davis and Ted Nesbitt to fly in especially for the occasion of our post Covid meeting and the first appearance of Davie Holland in alternative mode!

Once things warmed up we had a well attended good session as ever and of course it was super to see Davie playing without restriction and with his usual aplomb!!

Reg was missed but not forgotten, others who should have been there, let's see you next time!!

I left home on Tuesday morning and headed for George Best Airport in Belfast . Thumbed a lift on a British Airways flight to Glasgow and was met by my good friend Willie Gamble. Next stop was the home of Mr. Bob Adams. On arrival there, I was welcomed by Bob and another ole friend John Davis who travelled up from Cambridge. Then we had coffee and scones .... beautiful, and the coffee was superb. Next was steel guitar time. We had great fun playing the 3 steels that was set up, Willie's Mullen and Bob's MSA and Emmons LG 11. Break for lunch, super-size hamburger and more great coffee. Then our host gave us a tour of his workshop where he performs magic on steel guitar that are sent to him from all over UK and Ireland. Then more steel guitar music. Then dinner time, more wonderful food served up by Bob's partner Olly. Such hospitality, John and I and Willie were treated like Royalty. Then of to the steel guitar club, picking up Davie Holland on the way. It was great to see a lot of faces I had met on a previous visit to club. A good turnout, and a great evening was had by all.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bob Adams and Olly for their wonderful hospitality, and to Willie Gamble for being my taxi driver for the day. Hats off to Davie Holland who put up a great show after all he has been through in the last 3 - 4 months. I thoroughly enjoyed my day, and enjoyed the company of all who attended. Hope to do it again. Thanks guys.
