Streel Guitar North/North Steelies

Postby Tony Russell Davis » Fri Sep 17, 2021 8:03 am

Hi everyone - we can start work again at Thornton Watlass in October. The Buck Inn is booked for October 17th from around 12 noon. Anyone who would like to come along is very welcome. Pedal steel, lap steel, dobro - it doesn't matter what sort of steel guitar you play, or style you're interested in: country, Hawaiian, swing, jazz etc (is there any "etc"?)
This is not a full scale festival, it's a more intimate event where we can play what we want, with or without backing, and can join in some tunes - busk if you prefer; but generally just be with some other steel-guitar-minded people for friendship and fun. We also have regular non-players that just like to be there!
Please let me know if you intend coming so I, and the Buck Inn, have an idea of likely numbers. It'll be going ahead whatever; even if it's just Keith, Derek and me!

Oh, and there's plenty of room to stay distanced!

Really looking forward to seeing old friends and maybe some ones new too.
Huge thanks to Tony for organising the meeting.
Keith.
Oh yes, the burgers will still be the best!

If you weren't here you missed a great afternoon!
But thanks to the attendees: Keith Glendinning, Derek Evans, John Stafford, Colin Scarth, Keith Wilson (and his pal - Gus the Guitar) and Peter Lindsley. They all travelled quite a distance to be here with me and we enjoyed the chat, tunes, burgers & beer. Three E9 PSGs, one U12 PSG, a straight 8 in C6th and "Plank Marvin's" 8 in A6th, plus my 6 string A6th.
Particular shout out for "Orange Blossom Special" and some cool Django on lap-steel guitar - no names 'cos everyone contributed, including Harvey Spirit, our regular talented listener.
Next one will be (tba) in the New Year as the pub's entering into the Christmas Fayre period very soon.
Oh - and for the information of Basil, there were no less that 7 "Ezzee-slide" bars present!

It was so good to meet up again after the prolonged layoff. Big thanks again to Tony and the Buck Inn staff for letting us use the room.
There was some nice playing by our attendees. We didn’t organise a Round Robin this time because we didn’t know what kind of turnout to expect. On the day it exceeded expectations, which was great.
There was quite a bit of chat as well as playing and all in all it was a great afternoon.
Can’t wait for the next one.
Sorry, no pics or vids, we were too busy enjoying ourselves!
Keith.

So sorry I missed it guys...sounds like you had a great day, and by the list of players, I`d say some excellent music was played and heard. Hopefully, your day-fest will go ahead soon and I can make arrangements to come down....albeit me not driving at the moment...
You never know who I can persuade to accompany me to your fine event!! :D :D :o :o
