I see that Ken has posted this on the U.S. Forum.It has been there for a few days and it has not had ONE comment !!
I have noticed in the past that often when there is a musical clip of a British player there has also been a fair "silence"
Is it just Me thinking that they do not appreciate the fact that our boys can really play the instrument.
There are great players everywhere and I appreciate them all no matter where they live.
Well done our boys for showing them that "Britain's got Talent" !!

It doesn't matter Billy. Yes the silence is deafening, but as you say they can be chauvinistic sometimes when it comes to foreign players encroaching on their territory. I just thought that they might like to hear something a little different, but apparently not. At least there have been a decent number of views. David Hartley has cracked the American steel bubble, as has Sarah Jory. But I've found that for many in the USA, if it's not country it's not worth listening to.

I think the pop music bit is the key part Ken, although I have found a couple of people stateside to be a bit arrogant. Very much the minority though.

Being British is a bit of a novelty and having a broad Yorkshire accent has helped my popularity. I got told I needed to learn how to speak English properly once...

Regardless of quality, when I've played songs by ABBA and Oasis, I've got much less responses/views than when I've played the likes of Hank Williams, Buck Owens, Vince Gill and etc. One of my country vids is at 13k views and considering I was a 17 year old rookie at the time with audio issues...it's incredible.

Anyway, I've found that the SGF is a faltering community in recent years. Most of my video interactions come from Facebook and the BSS these days and I'm sure if you shared it round the FB groups the project would rocket.

Tried hard not to comment on this Billy but my nature prevents. Just been on the USA forum- 190 views and not one comment, I have doubts that it’s due to the song not being country. Our boys rendition is far better than lots put on the US forum and for no other reason than basic respect and brotherly camaraderie within the steel guitar fraternity should be recognised and commented on as such. Davie says ‘I didn’t do it to be famous‘ that’s typical of UK steelies, we are not known for our ego, but steel players we have and bloody good ones at that.

The Miss you Nights track is a credit to all involved, well played and equally well produced, the 190 viewers on the US forum are either missing something or purposely biased against anything away from the normal.

Sorry lads, genuinely didn’t want to rant but 190 views without a comment on a great piece of steel playing smacks of something.

Sorry chaps but you need to wake up and smell the roses here!

Our friends west of the pond are rarely going to acknowledge the talents of the UK or European players, at times it is seriously bad grace. but such is life!

The views will be many but the comments few!

The question is: is it a wakeup call for us or for them?

Our standards must remain high then we know where the fault lies!

One thing for sure - no player west of the Atlantic will ever outsell Basil Henriques’ for solo steel guitar albums. In fact, even totalled together they won’t ever get anywhere near his sales. A British steel guitarist out-performing the Yanks? Heaven forbid.

I definitely get where people are coming from however, the most important thing is that we have each other.

As Bob says, keep our standards up and there are no excuses.
