As this is about video, and you mentioned Lanois, did you catch this offering from Geoff showing excellence in both?

Yes, that's a very fun and fine video, and I have seen it before as it happens. A bit beyond my Nokia though! Were you actually in outer space Geoff? Impressive! I have a fear of heights, so even watching it (again) was a challenge.

Given that I use a £13 Nokia from Tesco this is starting sound a bit daunting!! But I will experiment with different viewpoints until I get a reasonable compromise. From my point of view, I like full-frontal, because I like to see the whole body in co-ordination, and especially whether those many players with many many pedals and many many knee levers actually ever use them, it always surprises me how many don't. In which case why not be like Russ Pahl and just have 2 pedals? Or Daniel Lanois, who sometimes has even less...but I digress.

Thanks for your feedback.

Gary

Yes, I get where your coming from, it's good to see what's going on with the pedals as well as the bar work, as Danny says it allows you to analyse your playing, it also allows other steel players to see how you're doing things.

I've found it's also useful to go back and watch a tune I've played in the past and forgotten exactly how I played it having forgotten the moves. :?

  I have a 4k camcorder so the quality is there. I also have a fear of heights and NASA refused my request to launch my steel into orbit, so I used a green screen technique to overlay the vid onto a separate background. The background came from a NASA vid from the space station. It's pretty time consuming though as you have to set up lighting etc to make it work effectively.
