Just got a nice new camera, thought I'd experiment with a quick steel improv. Scrappy, but it gets going as it goes along! Not really country, but...

I'll post more when I learn to relax in front of the camera.

When I get more relaxed, I'll do some close-ups. Be good to get my ugly mug out of shot if nothing else...but I guess that's what you meant anyway...so polite!

I’m listening too Gary and keep it up. The tumbleweed on the forum is legendary! The problem with close ups is that you invariably end up with a video of a belly with a bit of music stuff going on either side. Multiple cameras perhaps?
How many finger picks are you using there? Hard to see.

Two finger picks. I've rarely seen players using three, although B J Cole does.

Hi Gary, most smart phones these days take a good HD video, useful for a 2nd camera or even a 3rd if you have access to 2 phones. Easy to set up in a position using one of these holders you can buy for sticking to your car windscreen or you can get the holders with a flexible arm and a clip for attaching to a surface.

Of course then you have to get into video editing and synchronising the different camera videos, but that can be a lot of fun too if you have the time and software

Given that I use a £13 Nokia from Tesco this is starting sound a bit daunting!! But I will experiment with different viewpoints until I get a reasonable compromise. From my point of view, I like full-frontal, because I like to see the whole body in co-ordination, and especially whether those many players with many many pedals and many many knee levers actually ever use them, it always surprises me how many don't. In which case why not be like Russ Pahl and just have 2 pedals? Or Daniel Lanois, who sometimes has even less...but I digress.

You've hit the nail on the head, Gary. Using the videos, primarily, to 'see' where you could be going wrong. Rather than exposing yourself for the entertainment/scrutiny of others. Up here, in the Bonny Land, the full frontal is frowned upon due to the sporting of the kilt when seated at the steel.
As an onlooker, I must say, I'm enjoying your posts, vids and clips.

Actually, I was wearing a kilt (being half-Scots myself), but I was wearing under my trousers, as is the norm down here in the west country.
