Thanks for your support Bob, it means a lot to me. I have been getting PMs from some others offering support and this has certainly lifted my spirits and determination to keep going with this, wherever it may lead.

To expand on my earlier post, to merge the two ideas you can have a "virtual" steelies meet using the Zoom app, and stream that to Youtube: -

As well as being streamed live, the live stream would be saved to the YouTube channel for viewing later as well.

This sounds like a definite possibility Arcada, I'll look into this when i get a chance. Perhaps we could have a regular broadcast on a specific day and time where players could play live for others to enjoy. My view is that it would require that only one player at a time connects into the live stream, but I'm sure we could work out a procedure to make this possible. I would like to get my initial idea up and running first but definitely worth examining for a future development. Any info you could share with me on this would be most welcome

I was also thinking that if members already have their own Youtube or Soundcloud channel, they could upload their video or audio to it and then post it into the topic page created for the monthly meet songs in the Pedal Steel Recordings section. It would be preferable if all vids or audio files were on the dedicated Youtube or Soundcloud channel but if it encouraged people to get involved then why not?

I think though that only versions of the chosen songs for the month should be put on the Monthly Meet dedicated topic page on the Pedal Steel Recording section, any other tunes should be uploaded into a new topic of their own by the player as happens now. So anyone who wants to post something different from the chosen songs should open a new topic of their own, otherwise it'll just become a rammy. (Not sure if that is solely a Scottish expression?, meaning - unorganised chaos).

I have uploaded the backing track for Ken's choice of song into the shared folder - Backing Tracks - along with the original song with vocals for a guide to the melody. So anyone with access to the shared folders can download it from there. First you need to PM me your Gmail address so I can give you access to these folders.

I've had a wee go at it myself, Ken reckons it's a fairly simple melody to get a grip off, I found that to be be mostly true but there are some nice subtle changes there, especially nearer the end of the song which will require a bit more thought, on my part anyway. A doddle for you pro's though

I'll get working on my version in the next couple of days.

I think we were looking at playing the melody to the backing track, I put up the vocal track for reference. However what the heck, it sounds really good. Are you using a bit of distortion on the end bit? Love the Sleepwalk reference lick at the end

Thanks, Geoff, I only went for it to show some support for all the work you put in setting this up!
Having been 'off' it for nearly 2 years, I took the path of least resistance and tried to keep out of the way of Mr. Milsap's singing. I don't really enjoy playing melodies, out front, so to speak. And, Yes, that's a wee amp sim pedal I got called American Sound, really good and cheap, too.

Thanks Danny I very much appreciate it. Of course it doesn't always have to be about playing the song melody, I really enjoyed when you were putting up songs to do backing on, in fact I too probably enjoyed doing that more. Maybe we could try a two pronged approach for future songs.

I've never been able to attend any meets due to a chronic back condition. This could be a chance to participate a bit more. I have had a bit of a break from PSG, but have taken to it again (with my own copedant, so I can strum!) so it will be nice to see what happens.

Has anyone here tried JamKazam? I have just solved the technical side, but it apparently hooks up several muso's to play in real time. Obviously latency is an issue, but in just the UK it can be kept to workable levels. I hear some bands use it to rehearse! Open or closed sessions can be set up by anyone. If one person played a backing track we could take turns at the melody, you can also have mic coms as well as wired instruments (if you go direct). Just a thought.

Anyway, Geoff, I've PM'd you my gmail. Nice one for setting this up.

Just to add more to this, Google have just made their "Google Meet" app freely available to everyone, with no restrictions on meeting times (until September, when it will be restricted to 1 hour). Video meetings up to 250 participants, with improved video and audio quality compared to others.... https://meet.google.com (can be accessed via computer, with apps available for iPhone & Android).

Worth a look!

Hi guys, this hasn't been a successful venture I'm afraid, as you can tell by the fact that that Danny Mitchell and myself are the only ones to have actually produced anything.

TBH There has been very little interest in the venture which is a shame as it could have been a way to get a bit of community spirit going and given folks something interesting to do other than all the household tasks that have been ignored for years

I guess we've all got other things on our minds right now. So unless there is a spate of interest from members I'm afraid I'm going to declare this venture dead in the water.

Jivebiker, if you want to have a go at the song we did already I'll set you up with access to the backing track etc later today

Oh well back to the garden and household tasks
