Peavey Nashville 112 Amp

Is there a difference between the Nashville 112 with the white control knobs and the Nashville 112 without the white knobs?

Baz, the latest 112 amps with white knobs are built in China, the older ones were built in USA. The new ones have the “old style” silver strips down the front grill, ala Nashville 400, and I believe there are changes to the circuit board which means it is difficult to change the chips in it, such as the Ken Fox mod. Unfortunately they kept the same stupid cutaway on the top front edge, leaving all the control knobs exposed and liable to get damaged or totally snapped off when in transit, highly recommend fitting a protective guard. If you like the white knobs I believe you can buy them from Peavey, Dessa fitted them on his old 112 when he recovered it in vintage tweed, looked great.

According to what I have read on US forum there is no significant difference in tone between them.

Opinion seems to vary in US, some prefer older one because you can fit mod kits eg Ken Fox , a bit easier, some like them purely because they are made in USA. I remember someone said the first ones from China did not sound as good but were very quickly modified to get original sound.I had one of the old ones, but found it a bit underpowered for the band I was working with at time,who were really loud, tone was good and similar to my old Nashville 400, just lacking power. I do like the look of the newer one, but like the old one Dessa recovered in tweed and added the white chicken head knobs, tried to find pic of it but can’t seem to find one, Del Boy if you see this stick picture on.
If you get one I would strongly recommend fitting the knob guard ( make one yourself, get metal from B&Q). You can also change out speaker for a Neo lightweight one, and a lot of guys change out the reverb pan for better sound. All in all a good little amp.

I am only learning at home for my own pleasure on a 8 string lap steel until I get my pedal steel which is being made because I am left handed, so power or a knob guard wouldn't be a problem. I have several amps already from my gigging days with 6 string guitar (I am 76 now so this is just for my own fun before time runs out!)

I have a VOX AC15, 2 xVOX JMI AC30, LANEY LC15R (all these are valve amps) also a ROLAND CUBE 60 from 1984. I have been running the Laney and Roland together with a Hilton volume pedal and getting some pleasing sounds playing along to some old Country CD's.

I was wondering if there would be any advantage getting a Peavey Nashville as this seems to be the 'go to amp' for steel players.

Baz, quite a few players using the Roland Cubes and seem to be getting very good results, John Davis is your man to talk to about them. I currently use a GK. MB200 with a Sica 12inch a Neo speaker, built into a little cab that I built with my good mate Willie Gamble, use out board effect, only weighs about 20lbs. I recently got a little Joyo American Sound pedal to use as a preamp into a Jay Ganz small stompbox size 500watt Dclass amp, this can be used with the 12inch cab or an old Nashville cab with a Telonics 15inch speaker for bigger gigs.

Hi Malcolm,
Yes I have read somewhere that people are getting good results with the Roland Cube Amps. My Cube is one of the early ones with a 12" speaker, not the later 'modeling' type.

I have a Joyo America pedal That I use with my Telecaster for that country twang.....I might wait until I get my PSG then try the Joyo with the amps I have before deciding which way to go. Thank you once again.
