Steel seat/case wanted

Any combined seats and cases out there? I want to stop carrying a drum seat and separate case with volume pedal, strings, leads etc. I need something with a height of 21".

Chris, if it is any help, I made my own which I have been using for almost thirty years. I determined the correct height, made a sturdy box and put a padded hinged lid on with securing clips. The excess room in the case is filled with polystyrene sheets which can be easily removed if more space is required.
It won't win any prizes for beauty, but at least I have the correct seat height at every gig.

If you haven't got either the time or ability to carry out Willie's great idea above, a fishing seat like the one in the pics below looks like it could do the job for you. Purpose built steel guitar seats can be on the expensive side at a few hundred quid, but this fishing seat with adjustable leg height and backrest is £79.99 inc. free delivery. It looks to have a decent storage capacity.

Ken, the fishing seat looks interesting. I am intrigued by the round lever at the side. I may well opt for this as it looks as though it could do what I need at a very reasonable price. Have you seen one up close a personal? If so, what's the build quality like?

I haven't seen one close up Chris, although I do own a fishing seat box as I enjoy sea fishing. I have acquired a half dozen steel seats over the years, but I provide them for my students when they come for lessons. That seat above looks as though it would be quite functional as a steel seat, and would have to be sturdy enough for fishermen to use it on rough terrain. It's made of Polypropylene, which is lightweight but extremely tough. If I had my time over again, I would have had no qualms investing in one of those seats.

I got the fishing seat about a week ago and have been using at the steel since then. I thought it might be useful if I posted a summary of my first impressions. Overall, I like the seat and it seems to fit the bill though I have yet to take it outside the house. That will happen this weekend, so I may have further observations to post.

The box part is made of pressed metal and the seat itself is clipped on to a metal tray which in turn clips on to the lower box. The box rests on four aluminium legs that can be inserted to different lengths. A word of warning: I have positioned the legs at their maximum length (lowest hole in the shafts) and the seat still sits slightly shy of the 21" height I am used to. This is not a problem for me, because the seat gives a little less than my drum stool, but it may be an issue for anyone with longer legs.

The seat has a low back which I am finding useful. Because I always used a seat without a back before I never realised how much I was bending over while playing. It is quite comforting to have that support now. I haven't spent hours in the seat yet, but I think it will be ok. It is firmer than what I had before.

The build quality seems good, though I imagine a wooden seat would be less clanky, but then I haven't put much stuff in mine yet, which should dampen some of the metallic sound. It seems sturdy. There is a rather curious lever, as you can see in Ken's pictures above, which I have not fitted. It must be a fishing accoutrement and it has a circular spirit level in one end. The whole caboodle is carried using a should strap attached to lugs on the side of the box. I would have liked a carry handle somewhere, but the strap is fine. The back of the seat does not fold down flat , again as you can see above.

Pros:
- low price
- provides plenty of storage space
- backrest
- I like the look

Cons:
- highest setting for the seat legs may not be enough for players with longer legs
- lack of a handle

All in all, I am very pleased with the seat and I will find out how it performs 'on the road' soon.
