Newcomer - Steel Wanted

Postby RichS » Mon Jul 08, 2019 9:56 am

Hi All

I am about to embark on a new steel journey and am on the look out for a quality, single neck steel guitar.

Is this the right place to search?

Thanks John. I've been on their website, and its awful!!

Not sure if I have the right one?? What steel are you thinking of selling? What should I budget for a decent steel? I'd rather pay the extra than pay for something, only to want to sell it 12 months later.

Thanks for the advice in advance John!

Hi Richard, I have PM'd you Teds phone number, you are right about the web site but don't let that put you off, Ted is the top man if you can afford what he sell's and the best advice has always been buy the best you can get if you are serious about playing,
I find some cheap but playable guitars for people but if you can go to about 2 - 2.5k you will get something real nice for that money

Hi John and Derek

Thanks again for the invaluable advice. I've seen a twin neck Mullen D-10 (about 2001) for sale in London for £3k.

Would it be considered reasonable for a beginner to spend this sort of money on their first steel?

The guitar is in London, so would have to look at it first. Is there a thread on what I need to look out for, because I'd be going in completely blind!!

Thanks John for Ted's number - may very well give him a call.

Richard, if I was fortunate enough to be in your position I don't think I would spend a huge amount to start with as a lot do but they also give up when they find it's not that easy to do. Take a look at the "White" s10 I have demo'd on here it will go for 700 when I have sorted out a problem with the legs but, as you can clearly see it is a playable guitar and to me that is the important part.

Hello Richard

I have a 70s ZB Custom; 3 pedals, 4 knee levers, which I bought a few years ago, learned to play, up to competent, then was told I needed to concentrate more on my guitar playing!
It's a quality instrument, very stable, and perfect as an instrument to learn on, though its quality is such that you might just want to hang on to it.
I'm looking for £1000.
I'll send pics if you're interested
You can email me: [email protected], or text 07970847441
I'm based in Cambridge, could possibly deliver or meet half way...

Hi Richard

I have a 70's Vintage Sho-Bud SD10 for sale. It has four pedals and four knee leavers, E9 tuning.
which I originally bought off Ted Nesbitt. It had been converted from a D-10 professional by Ron Bennett at Bennett Steels.

The price of my sale would be £850:00.

If you are interested and would like some photographs, then please e-mail me :
