Feel stop on D lever - is there a 'best' way?

Postby simon_f3 » Wed Jan 16, 2019 10:08 am

Hi All,
I am attempting to get my right knee working, and I find that on my Sho-Bud Pro 3 I could really use some kind of feel stop, to enable me to accurately land on a D natural on string 2. At present the D natural (half lower) on string 2 occurs just before the rod for the half lower on string 9 engages, so if you press the lever to the point of feel it is a bit flat.
I had a look here http://pedalsteel.fr/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=881&catid=173&Itemid=1492 at the different options, but does anyone have any thoughts on what may be the optimum method please?
I am leaning toward adding another rod to the raise finger on string 9, which can be adjusted along with the lower rod on the same string to get the point of string 9 contact to occur at the point where string 2 perfectly hits the half lower - does that sound wise? I believe that way I'll end up with D natural on string 2 and 9 at the same time, then further knee movement should bring both down to Db together(ish).
If not, I may be in the market for a half stop...
Thanks,
Sid

Hi! Sid,
Standard E9th 9 string is usually raised to C# with the same lever as the 2nd string. This is a kind of built in feel stop that is probably used the most.

Sid,
I added the extra rod on the ninth string on my Carter, exactly as you propose to do.

It worked a treat :D

Richard passed on to me the idea of the extra rod and it's the best solution I've found on an all- pull.
He deserves a pat on the back for that idea.
