Hi Roy,
Sad news indeed. I remember the days at Pucklechurch when you and Alan both encouraged me to play pedal steel..I kept trying but eventually went back to 7 string guitar. I usually played backing guitar for the rest of the steelies I seem to recall....still good times.
I had a phone call a couple of weeks back from Mark advising me of Alan's passing and was honestly upset. Alan was one of the most genuine, considerate, patient, encouraging musicians I ever had the privilege to meet and I will remember him fondly for all of those attributes.
I tried to contact him about three years ago for a chat because i was contemplating trying psg again, but obviously unable to find him.
On the day of the funeral I left WsM about 12.45 heading for the crem up the A38 however, there had been an accident on the northbound M5 between BoS and WsM and all northbound traffic was then on the A38 to keep moving. I managed to get to Bristol Airport by 2.05 and had to turnaround ( Alan taught me a few of them) and head back home.
I don't have Mark's number to phone and apologise for my absence so if you're in touch with him please give him my best.
Dave Bennett
