Dummy load info

Hi All,
I was looking at an amp head and if I use the line out to go to another amp I will need to insert a dummy load in the speaker out jack of the amp head since it needs to have a load all the time.
I know nowt so if anyone has any info on what i need to buy,please let Me know.
I know I can get a ready made THD Hot plate which seems a bit over the top,I expect there is something less exotic which will serve the purpose and be less expensive.

I was in need, a few years ago, of a similar beast and an audio engineer friend of mine suggested if I had a speaker with a ripped cone, I could cut the voice coil out (it's not much bigger than a roll of tape) maintaining it's circuit integrity and making sure it's within the working impedence of the amp (Usually 8 or 4ohms), connect a lead to it going to a jack, place it in a non conductive container and put it in the back of the amp. Plug it into the amp and for best practice, connect everything up and run it in anger and just sit and watch it for a few minutes to make sure there are no overheating problems and voila, a cheap dummy load.
