I currently have a Gretsch G9230 Bobtail square neck which I love. I am possibly looking at a cheaper second one so that I can try different tunings and take about without worrying too much.
Can anyone advise as to what would do? Looking about, there are so many variations in cost.

I also have a Gretsch as my number one,
but I have an SX square neck that really is a great number two. Well put together, spun cone and a really good tone. IMO, a good budget reso.

I see theSX RG1 round neck at £349. If the square neck is the same price it looks good value - as long as you play it first. By the way, Thomann have the Dobro Hound Dog deluxe square neck for £381.27 (don't now where it's made but it carries the name!). :shock:

Gents,
All of the sites I have looked at for the RX1, it looks like it is out of production? The only site I can find in the UK is RockFactory in York for £215 although it is still listed on the SX official site.
Would you mind having a look to see if we are talking about the same instrument as yours.

Yep, that's the one. A good price as well. BTW, I've also owned 8 and 6 string SX lap-steels, both equally well built and great to play.

Dave - where are you at? The £215 guitar is in Castleford, about 10 miles south of Leeds. At that price and with Tony B's recommendation It look like you need to get your name on it! It's 50 miles south (and back) for me or I would have offered to pick it up for you. Square necks aren't the most popular models, so you might still have some thinking time
