Double Neck Bennett Swapsies??

Hey everyone,

I'm pretty new to pedal steel and landed myself a super sweet double neck Bennett. It sounds amazing and it's beautifully made, the only thing is - it's totally beyond my skill level and is hindering rather than helping. I'm determined and my practising has been paying off but I want to pick up a simpler single neck. I like my vintage gear and I'm on the hunt for an Emmons or something with a bit of what ebayers call 'mojo'!

The Bennett is a really nice kind of faded green. I'll take some photos tomorrow and post them. It also seems like it would suit someone tall. I'm no expert on steel heights but I'll measure it and let you guys judge.

So if anyone has a single neck and wants to switch to a double neck then let's talk!

Hi welcome to the forum, what is your name and where are you located?, if not too far from St.Neots I would be happy to have a look at that Bennet for you. Ron makes a fine guitar and there is no way it should impede your progress and if it does it should be an easy fix.......... if it is working right you will grow into it......

Thanks for replying My name is Jesse. I'm based in Suffolk. I suppose the things I struggle with about it are the number of pedals and knee levers being a bit overwhelming for a novice. I guess I could just remove some of them until I get to the point of needing them. I'm not sure I can imagine ever needing two different tunings, E9 seems to feel fairly logical to me as a guitarist. Operation wise it does feel like the body (not sure of the technical term!) is too high for me. Also the pedals gradually sink the more I use them and I'm not sure how to remedy that - again, I'm still getting my head around the whole thing! However, it does sound beautiful.

Essentially I feel like it would be a beautiful instrument for a serious steel player and I can't imagine ever fully utilising all it's features!

I might add, I barely utilise all six strings on my Telecaster, let alone the volume and tone!

hi Jesse, not that far from St.Neots why don't you bring it over and we can take a look at it? I would advise against removing anything..... just cos it's there does not mean you have to use it.... and you cannot grow into what is not there.
