New beginning.

Postby slimbo » Thu Mar 29, 2018 1:13 pm

Well here's a new adventure, at 80 i'm going to start on a new career, Lap Steel, after 40 odd years on pedal steel I now no longer have a pedal steel, only a standy up 10 string lap steel which started out life as a Springfield, but was hard to keep in tune, so I gutted it but left the changer mech on, lots of practice is due i.e. Blues, Western Swing and anything else that takes my fancy, so who knows I may be a confident player in a couple of years and Bill and myself will, I think be one of or even the only duo in the country using a lap, wish me luck, and it's a lot lighter than pedal steel.

Good move Slim. I have a 10 string lap steel that I've tuned to C6. It's a standard pedal steel C6 tuning with a D on top. I've taken it out several times in a band, and it is great for swing and standards. Good luck with the duo and the non pedal journey.
Show Pro D10 (amber) 8 + 6, MSA Signature XL D10 (redburst) 9 + 6, Sho~Bud D10 (sunburst) Pro 111 8 + 6, Emmons D10 Push Pull - (black) 8+5, Zumsteel D10 (blue) 8 + 8, Hudson pedal resonator, 10 string lap steel. Telonics, Peavey & Webb amps,

Hi Baz, at the moment C6, but have been looking at some of the tunings of Doug Beaumier as I would like to play some of the tunes he plays as the old folks would know some of the tunes, but any suggestions from you that would cover most tunes would be welcome.

Slim
Best wishes on your " new " venture, not wishing to be accused of " trying to teach my grannie how to suck eggs " you will find the Springfield pick up string spacing is a bit tight for close slants, but it can be achieved with a smaller diameter bar, which might be good idea anyway.
No doubt "someone" could advise you where to obtain the right size bar of the correct weight and even made in a colour of your choice. it could even have been advertised in an earlier post :?
If you want any help regards C6th tab send me a pm and I'll try to sort something that may be suitable.
Good luck and "Welcome to my world" :guitar:
Cheers
Robert
No longer slummin, I’ve got a Mullen and a damn good amp as well,
they’ll be well played, if not played well, seat time alone must tell!
