2nd pick up

Postby highrisejesus » Thu Feb 22, 2018 2:54 pm

Hi All

In my search for greater tone I am thinking of getting a 2nd pick up installed in my Carter SD10. I can't afford to buy a new steel so this is a would be a way to achieve this.

I can't do it myself so I would have to find someone who could do it for me. The neck is hollow steel so it is possible to cut a section away to create a gap for another pick up.

Has anyone had this done? Does anyone know of someone who could so this for me?

I have no information on this, but am curious to see what you end up doing with this idea.

Interesting idea. Last week I changed my George L for a single coil truetone and while doing it I wondered why there was no split coil steel pick up available. As it is, I still find the biggest difference is choosing where, from the bridge, to pick and, apart from a slightly brighter tone, and a feeling that it brought me home to the Strat, the pick up experiment was the least of my issues. Now, being able to have two pickups out of phase - now we’re talking. Next thing independent volume knobs worked by your.........

Caution! Ask yourself what you really want to achieve, and address that issue. You have a guitar, pickup, amp (with tone controls), strings and hands to consider before adding a (possible superfluous - how many players have two p/ups per neck) second pickup. I wish you well in your search but be careful before routing out a perfectly good guitar
PS my first PSG had a pickup with three coil taps, totally useless! I found one sound that was - OK (just) - and stuck with that  Good luck.
