OK you two thanks for the support, here is something different, does it make a difference how you resolve the end of a phrase?

Nice one John.

I am a sucker for a falling melody line - think Michelle by the Beatles, on the line "I will say the only words I know..." This line appears in all sorts of tunes, genres and ages - from Bach to Gram Parsons. There's a lovely demo by Mickey Adams on YouTube of this.

Strings 5,4, &3 throughout. Key of F. Beginning chord is Dm - fret 1, A pedal engaged. For those with a vertical KL dropping B to Bb, the move is

string 5, A pedal in +4+3 to string 5 A pedal +VKL+4+3 to string 5 no pedal or lever+4+3 then to string 5VKL only+4+3. The line resolves to Bb, then A then D.

If you don't have a VKL, the same can be achieved by using half A pedal on the second chord. The 4th chord can be found (awkward, but worth it), by playing
open strings 5,4,&3(no bar) at zero fret with B pedal in on 3 and F lever on 4.

However, the same can be achieved at 8th fret, strings 6,5&4 with B+C pedals in. So, first chord is 6,5,4 with B+C. Second chord is B+C+ E lower, third chord is 654 A+B and fourth chord is A+B+E lower.

And finally, the move can also be found at Fret 8 as follows.
7,6,5 with A+B pedals in, second chord is 8,6,5 with F lever engaged.
Third chord is 8,6,5 (8 is open)
Fourth chord is 8,6,5 with E lower engaged.

Phew!

Hope this A) makes sense, and B) is not too simplistic, but beginnersmight find something useful in that you can often find the same notes at different parts of the fretboard and with different combinations of strings, pedals and levers.

Going for a lie down now....

Spot on John. I also like this run with A+B pedal down, using 7,6,5, then 8F,6,5 to 8,6,5 finally to 8E,6,5. But yes, you've translated my ramblings very well. I hadn't connected it with the Tom Brumley move but I see the link with it.
I've just about exhausted my supply of licks! Maybe someone else will chip in?

The Michelle lick is the one I put up on this thread a couple of years ago, it got no takers so I rather lost heart. Glad to know you have rediscovered it Nick, it's really sweet.

John's counterpoint lick (as taught to him by Shakey) can also be found (any fret, same throughout) on strings 4,3, then 4E and 3B, 5 and 2 (half lower) and finally 6B and 2 full lower. Nice!

I see where your coming from on that one Nick but its not very user friendly especially on an old Emmons Push pull, I need lics I can put into service on the hurry up .... but your right the notes are there.... maybe if I swapped it for a modern all pull....... but then again ....no.
