Barry, When you say "a little while ago" by my calcs. that is about 4 years ago that I could have walked away with a beautiful Mullen D10 for less than 2k!!!
and from what I hear you are now playing it better than ever :) , there are plenty more examples of your state of mind Jason, my good friend Slim sold me his Shobud a few years ago and was never going to play again, it took less than 6 months for the urge returned in him and I am pleased to say he is still playing! also Polish Joe from Norfolk is now back at it after a break of some years,,,,, and didn't Mr.Hartleys beautiful "Hartley Rains" sit on a table in my front room for 9 months before he came and reclaimed it?. The point behind this rant is, A steel guitar is a large purchase for any of us and once you have it and you own it, it will cost you nothing more than your time, it is not eating anything DON't SELL IT you have already come a long way. :)

You don't know me from Adam, Jason, but I'd like to let you know that your posts have been helpful and informative, and much appreciated by me.
I can, I think, understand your concerns. It's such an unforgiving instrument. I've felt no improvement myself for a year, at least. Even if I get regular practice it feels like 3 steps forward, 2 steps back.

Listen to your missus, and see how you feel after a break.

Hi Jason
My Advice to you is DONT SELL UP

Store it away as advised, you may go back and play

I sold my Sho Bud Pro 3 in the early 80's and wished I hadn't.

Started again in 2006, then stopped again in 2009.

Guess what, I now have another one, nice Fessenden twin neck.

This ones staying put. Look at all the years Ive missed out, would have been a better player if Id stuck with it.lol

There's not enough steel players around...

To be honest, I feel its dying out really. Even Nashville can’t be bothered with it any more. What chance do the rest of us have? You may as well learn the bagpipes...

Keep hold of it Jason. Very few players get to greatness. For most of us it's a hobby and we mainly play for our own pleasure. It's also an expensive outlay and very costly to replace if you do want to go back to it.

Definitely keep it Jason. As for it dying out I disagree...there is a fair amount of steel playing on Americana and country in general. If you advertised yourself as a steel player on Join my band or other sites you would have your arm ripped off. Not that that would be conducive to steel playing!!!!
Keep on keeping on!
Phil

Keep it Jason.
You are a good player.
I done it once and luckily bought it back.
