Why buy an Emmons Push Pull

Get that Black Rock back on the road Willie out of the closet and ringing again!........ I've worked on two of them recently and they sound fantastic! If you don't I'll happily make you an offer for it and do it myself!

Much as I love modern PSGs with their capability to reach all sort of notes ½s / ¼s and just about anywhere you want to take them....... I've yet to find a guitar that matches the tone of a P/P! it just doesn't get any better than this!

Yes Bob - I didn't exactly keep anything up my cuff, but there was so little interest in my comments on my trip on the BSS site that I decided to confine them to the USA site. Apathy

I met the restorer of the above push pull, Mike Scaggs, in Nashville. Mike is a skilled push pull man, and he keeps trying to get me to sell him 2 of my Lawrence 705 chrome surround pickups. They are destined to be installed in my own push pull and 2 more possibly in my Zum. Mike has restored 2 push pulls to date, both of which are up for sale via Damir Besic. A third that he is working on is destined to be a keeper. He uses a local company called Southbound, who do all of the cabinet finishing work for Jeff Surratt's Show Pro guitars. I can speak through experience and say that they carry out work to an exceptional standard. Mike removes the old mica finishes and replaces them with top quality veneers. Mike's latest guitar will be finished in sunburst, and in Scottish parlance will be a 'stoater'!

Funnily enough, I have been working on my own Emmons today and putting some more modern pulls on it using titanium rods. I will have to continue with it tomorrow, as I ran out of time tonight. I spent some time in Nashville talking push pulls with Mike Johnson, Buck Reid, Bob Hempker and Manfred Schall. All of these guys have a big place in their hearts for the Emmons push pull. Although he records with his Franklin guitars, Mikey Johnson has a really close affinity with his red push pull, and Bob still plays one to this day. Although he plays all pull guitars these days, Buck is a confirmed Emmons push pull man and is a skilled tech on these guitars. I hope to do some recording on my Emmons this week.

Here are the 2 finished Mike Scaggs renovations, and just a note that the blue one is a bolt on model and that's why it sounds so amazing.
