Tom Morrell - Phoolawka

Postby mick hearn » Mon Aug 14, 2017 9:27 am

Just listen and watch Tom go. His second time around is just fantastic. I thought Joaquin Murphey was fast but Toms fast array of notes just sends me wild.

If I could pull this off for next years shows it would be a miracle - but then again I can always dream

ShoBud 6139 - Remington Steelmaster - George Boards 8 String - Gretsch Country Gent - National Twin 8 Console x 2 - National New Yorker and a shed full of guitars.

Everyone sounds great. The band is swingin'. Good stuff.

EDIT: I just looked at a bunch more pootube vids of Tom Morrell. Such a talent. I'm new to the instrument and will need to spend hours and hours researching and this is a great start. Cheers for the link. :)

His solo in this is incredible.

Tom Morrell is one of the all time greats and I am fortunate to have all of his 'How The West Was Swung' series of albums. I had lunch one time with the late, great Herby Wallace at the Sheraton Hotel in Irving. Herby told me just how much he idolised Tommy Morrell and his ability to improvise. Maurice Anderson was another giant of the steel guitar who grew up with Morrell and quickly identified him as a master of non pedal steel. Morrell is in fact the M in MSA, along with Danny Shields and Maurice Anderson.
