Is that likely to have been a factory finish or is it a respray?

It looks like a faded LDG Joe, as natural finish 'Bud's usually had black decals on the front. Sometimes the green finish can turn brown or even lighter, especially if the guitar has been regularly subjected to sunlight or UV light. Looking at Matt's guitar it looks like a later model as it has the 'Superpro' type fretboard. The Sperzel machine heads are a later addition too. As many members on here know already, steel guitar manufacturers used food dyes to stain their wood bodies years ago, and that type of dye is very prone to fading unless it is played in a darkened room all of its life. If you have an older lacquer body guitar and have it set permanently in a room that has daylight coming in, cover it up when not in use if you don't want it to fade. Modern lacquered steel guitars have pigment staining, which is very fade resistant. I like the extreme faded look in this instance - very cool.

As the previous owner of the featured LDG under Matt's fingers, I am delighted that it sounds well and that he his very happy with his purchase. After all, I would not wish to be featured on Rogue Traders. As for the colour, I understand that the original green had been bleached out by exposure to the sun. Certainly I found the colour very attractive. :guitar:
