Wound 6th string

Postby Nick Bidmade » Mon Apr 10, 2017 6:48 pm

My new Ben-Rom is set up to take a wound 6th string rather than plain. I do prefer the tuning stability that a wound 6th string provides. I currently use SIT strings which contain a plain 6th. I have been substituting thids string for a wound Ernie Ball but the balance of the sound is compromised a bit.
Anyone able to recommend sets of strings that come with a wound 6th string?

Hi Nick, I used to play with Rotosound strings which I bought as single strings from my local music shop. It's worth a try. Donny.

Hi Nick, my first guitar was a Carter Starter  and Jagwire made bespoke sets for that model (with the wound 6th). I also tried stainless steel George L's, by ordering a set made up of of single strings, from Gerry Hogan.

But now I've given up my rough and rowdy, ostentatious ways, and now pleasure myself by plucking plain purchases, pleasingly
GFI Ultra keyless S10 4+5 Emmon's setup + Sigler, Li'l Izzy, Hilton volume pedal, Roland Cube 80gx, Joyo American Sound Pre-amp, Behringer VD400 Delay Pedal, Peterson Strobo Plus HD and a brace of bars, Ben's, Ezzee-Slide, Pearse, BJS, SIT nickel strings.

It's frustrating that there are so few string manufacturers offering a wound 6th set now.
I think we're down to:

Jagwire Lloyd Green and Ricky Davis sets
Ernie Ball
Livesteelstrings custom E9 or extended E9

Anyone know of more? I've tried a plain 6th and did not like the tone of it one bit. Came straight off my guitar.

Not so...... I can put a wound .22 in the Buddy Emmons sets if that is what floats your boat, The reason I get the signature series sets is I figure if they worked for Emmons they should work for me but if your guitar is not happy with a plain :) I can always take it out and put a wound in instead ;)
