I met George today and his "Carter Starter"

Postby JohnDavisStringsHere » Sat Apr 30, 2016 9:09 pm

George is from Hackney, not sure if he has joined the BSS yet but I am sure he will...., How nice to see some young blood taking an interest in the Steel as us old farts are dropping like flies :( ..... As there was no skip available, I made a few adjustments to his starter and sent him on his way, sure hope that thing does not kill his interest and enthusiasm :o ...... on the other side of the coin, I stood in Al Brisco's shop and listened to him play a starter and it made you want one! it just shows anything is possible.

Or in other words: "It ain't what you do, it's the way that you do it"! A master can make any steel sound good. And a good steel sound better...

Finally joined the BSS. Slowly getting the hang of the Carter Starter, both in repairs and playing. looking to upgrade soon!

Thanks so much for your help that day! Hopefully see you soon!

Hi George,
Welcome to the wacky world of the steel guitar. You definitely went to the right guy - if anyone can sort a steel out, it's John. Makes a lovely cuppa too. You should also sign up to the American steel forum. You'll find lots of people on both forums who will be happy to help you out with any questions you may have.

John you may recall selling and LDG to a lad from Forfar a couple of years back .. after some months he contacted me wanting something lighter, I had worked on a C/S to give it full 3x4 spec and we did a deal round it... he is using it still and playing it very well, it is sounding really great! and Calum, the new owner of the LDG is thrilled and also playing superbly, he made his 1st visit to the SSGW last month and his playing (for a newbie) was most impressive! Happy bunnies all round!
