Details of where you can see steel players live

Western Centuries & East Lonesome Drifters

Postby jonshack » Mon Feb 06, 2017 12:14 pm

A steel guitar twofer! Seattle band Western Centuries are heading over in April and my band is opening for the first night of the tour on Wednesday April 19th in Leytonstone.

Western Centuries are flat out fantastic and the steel player Rusty Blake is first rate. If you like the batch of smart young old-school country artists coming out such as Cale Tyson, Margo Price, Sturgill Simpson, these guys are easily in that league.

"If it seems crazy to compare any band today to giants like the Band and the Flying Burrito Brothers, then call me crazy, but Western Centuries is the country supergroup we've been waiting for: three first-rate lead singers, each of whom writes solid, heartwarming and heartbreaking country songs, together in one band.” —Kristin Cavoukian, Exclaim! Magazine

"This record and band hits the spot. The songs are cool, smart, deep and fun (the way I like my swimming pools). They're rooted in classic country with a twist.” —Jim Lauderdale

"Honky Tonk salvation is within Reach" – No Depression

East Lonesome Drifters can't match those reviews (in fact we've never had anyone bother to review us!) nevertheless you can see me honkin' my way through some classic country to get you in the mood. Check out our fancy new website and click the button on the banner to buy tickets for the gig. It's a tiny venue so get in early!

Giving this a bump as it's in two weeks. Will probably just end up selling more tickets in other parts of the UK  but if anyone is nearby do come along and say hello!

Western Centuries' steel seat is being ably filled on this tour by Leo Grassl - not featured here, but you get an idea what a GREAT band they are:

And then there's me and my lot:

How did the gig pan out, Jonathan? I'm still hoping to catch these guys when they leg it up here.

Fantastic night Danny, thanks for asking. We had an ok turnout in the end, not a sell out but decent.

Personally I don't think there is a better band out there. I've been hyping them til I'm blue in the face but you'll just have to go and see them and make up your own mind. Say hi to Leo and the guys from me if you do - and give my Peavey a friendly pat while you're there!

You can find a few photos, video, and links to a radio show my singer did with them here: http://www.facebook.com/eastlonesomedrifters

Btw It looks like we're booked in to play the Glasgow Grand Ole Opry in Feb so maybe I'll see you up there. :)

So glad to hear that, Jonathan. The W.C. seems to have all the elements of everything I love.
