Details of where you can see steel players live

Saturday 19th November, Bletchley

Postby Will C » Fri Nov 18, 2016 9:03 pm

My debut with the Flyin' Leathernecks, a rockabilly band, a bit nerve racking as I will need to play a bit more C6 style, which I have nowhere near enough experience at - but what the hey, they are good fun, and it's a great show. Bob on his black upright bass is a sight for sore eyes - and ears, with his occasional unscripted ad libs on the song lyrics. 8:30pm onwards at the Bletchley WMC, 1 Chandos Place Bletchley MK2 2SQ. Come and say hi if you're in the area.

Well that was fun, if slightly ragged in the first half as I realised everyone else had cranked up the volume after the sound checks! I had never cranked up my Cube to the 75 percent mark before, but I needed it, these guys don't mess around. The dance floor was full throughout, so I think everyone had a good time. Then this little blonde lady came up and said how much she loved to hear the steel and they should give me more elbow room! :D Maybe Juan Carlos Ramos from Facebook was right....

Glad to hear it went well and that you were ripping it up down Bletchley way, Will :guitar:
I do enjoy a good rockabilly blast, and it's good to know, as a fellow Cube owner, that your amp was up to the task on hand ;)

As a confirmed Facebook dodger, could you enlighten me as to what, the said Juan Carlos perhaps remarked? I'm hoping for something prurient

JCR is a bit of an institution on Facebook, Danny. He's Spanish, and loves steel and country. He's always posting the most outlandish stuff, but basically the theme is:

1. The Steel player always gets the girls.

2. Gorgeous women everywhere fantasise about steel players

3. Any country band without a steel isn't a country band.

It's all very tongue-in-cheek, but much of it is hilarious, although sometimes a bit near the knuckle. The photos are expertly Photoshopped to show a steel player (usually JCR) in a beautiful woman's think bubble, a steelie with ladies' underwear all over his steel from where it has been thrown at him, and so on. All good-hearted stuff, and he is single-handedly a sort of ambassador for the steel around the world, on the basis of his output.

Ha ha! Excellent, Will, thank you.

Although I've yet to experience any interest from the distaff camp myself :( and sadly, Gartcosh is like a monastery and I'm not that way inclined.

Still, I live in hope :guitar:

Danny, don't you listen to them, I can tell you that 1&2 are totally wrong, 3 is the only true part. After thirty years of playing, I can only think of two women ( definitely not beautiful, in fact to use the old adage - "every one has the right to be ugly, but these two were abusing the privilege " ) :o who showed the slightest interest ;) .To sum it up , women are an overated pastime, you are better off with a fish supper!!!! ;)
