Ron Mawn

Postby Ken Byng » Fri Oct 14, 2016 3:46 pm

It is very great regret that I have to post here to inform those who know him that Ron Mawn, formerly of the Sho~Bud shop in Denmark street is gravely ill. He is suffering from lung cancer and chronic heart problems. I visited him today and he is very weak indeed.

I am going to try to help sell his beautiful Emmons push pull guitar in birds eye maple finish for him. It is the nicest Emmons that I have ever laid eyes on and is in mint condition. I will put some pics over in the for sale section, but in the meantime if any of you want to offer up prayers to Ron it would be appreciated.

Ken, many thanks for keeping us posted, and good on you for visiting Ron Im sure it's much appreciated.
Should you venture to see him again please pass on my regards, we older foggies know what an important part both Ron and his mate John Edmed played in those far off days, I personally owe them so much.
God bless him.
Dave.

Of course I will Dave. Ron has helped out many steelers in his life, and I am more indebted than most to him for everything he has done for me. We are very good friends and he only lives a couple of miles from me. We have known each other for around 40 years. I was shocked to see him looking so frail today, as I saw him three months ago and he was fine. Life can be so cruel.

Ron has been a great help on many occasions in the past. I'm looking right now at bunch of ShoBud parts from the man. Ron has to face this himself but I hope our prayers and thoughts mean he doesn't have to feel alone.

Very nicely put, Tony. I'm so sorry to hear this news. Ron was a great help in setting up my Sho-Bud before I left the South-East and he had a wealth of great stories when I visited. Mean cup of tea, too. His knowledge and expertise on Sho-Buds in particular is invaluable and it will be a great shame if it is lost. Ron is a tough old bird but this sounds like he has a battle on his hands. I don't pray - but I can hope.
Ken - I'm not sure if Ron would remember me, but please pass on my good wishes to him if you can.

Actually Nick, he does remember you. He mentioned you on Saturday in passing. He has a very good memory recall, and I have had a number of scintillating conversations with him about the old days.
