Pull rods

Postby rogerp1 » Tue Jun 14, 2016 12:49 pm

Any one know what size die I need to put a thread on a 2.4mm pull rod?

I'm thinking 4 - 40 but as I havent got anything that small I'm just guessing

I use a 2.5 split die and screw it in.

If you're talking American thread forms, I'd be asking on the Steel Guitar Forum, Roger, as we don't use that nomenclature over here. Getting the dies would have to be a special thing, for the same reason. We're all BA, Metric, and UNF over here these days. From memory, I think it is 4-40, but I just use the nearest metric thread. M2.5 and nip it up a bit, as Ron Mac says. Works for me with my coathanger specials.

Cheers Will n Ron,

I have no idea the difference between american and UK thread forms are all I know is its very confusing to a non engineering type like me. Asking 1 question seems to spawn several different answers on the internet. The 4 - 40 thing was suggested on the american forums so thats where I got that from.
Anyway found a 2.5 die on ebay so all should be good
