Keep It Country TV. Launch. 24 Jan 2016.

There will be a new Country Music TV channel broadcasting on SKY TV Channel 261 and Freesat 402 from Sunday 24th January. This is a development of The Phil Mack Country Show, The Smith and Rogers Country Show and other country material which includes a new show called Classic Country featuring old stuff from the Opry, Bobby Long Show and other stuff which some of us older campaigners might find interesting. The plan as I understand it, is to go 24 hours in March. We'll just have to wait and see. If I can dig up any more info, I'll let you know.

Hi all. Keep It Country TV is now scheduled to start on Monday 25th Jan 2016 at 1300 GMT but not 24/7 yet. It will be on SKY Channel 261 but the Freesat Channel has not yet been allocated. They hope to cover all tastes. Let's see how well they do. At least someone is trying.

And the verdict is??? Well I've watched a few of these so called COUNTRY MUSIC shows and I am convinced I'm watching the wrong channel. Country music?, what country music, so far all I've seen is 21st century Nashville which in my opinion bears no resemblance whatsoever to country music. You can't even call it POP music. I did see one country number and that was Don Williams version of "Sing me back home." There is barely a steel guitar in sight and even when there is you don't hear it, there is the odd fiddle and mandolin but loads of fuzz guitar and deafening drums. So if this is what they call Country music today they can stick it and I'll stick to my old vynils. Phil Mack must be laughing all the way to the bank.

Up to a point, I agree with Pete, which is why I suggested the Classic Country show might appeal. Give it a try. You'll hear steel and fiddles. All the best, John H.

First off where does Pete come into this? Who is he?? Any way John the point I am trying to make is that Phil Mack is shoving out to us what he calls Country music, probably because he has got some fantastic deals going on with tour companies and the likes in the USA running what he calls country music tours. I appreciate what you say about the traditional country shows, not that I've seen one yet but I stand by what I say, what Phil Mack is giving us and calling it Country music is nothing like country and in my opinion he's making money under false pretences. MY OPINION AND STICKING TO IT.

My thanks to all who have viewed this post. I have just been told that Keep it Country TV will be on Freesat Channel 516 "from early March". We wait with (almost) bated breath.

John, I recorded your latest show, watched it today and really enjoyed it. I have no doubt you'll get round to some Ray Price and Faron Young sometime. I have just watched the Phil Mack show and I stand by what I said before, numbers like this: -

now that to me is about as country as Jimmy Hendricks. He did then play this one: -

now that's country and to answer the question I think it will be the likes of Mo Pitney who will fill their shoes. We need more young people like Mo and Teea Goans to keep real country alive.
