Steel players sitting in ?????

When I play with the five piece band We do the whole set ourselves with no guest singers, pickers or anything.
I also play a pub gig with a couple of guys.
Many times I am visited by friends who play steel and I enjoy asking them to play My guitar.The friends I speak of are very good players and they appreciate playing and My guitar is always treated well.
However there is a steelie who comes in and He can be a bit of a pain sometimes,He usually plays in the same pub during the afternoon(on Dobro) and He hangs on for our evening thing.Alcohol is consumed and although He is not falling around, He has had a few.Several times He has sat in for a couple of numbers and has had trouble with My set up (copedant) and does not sound too good,He has been quite reluctant to leave the stage,making out He is doing Me a favour by giving Me a break.
Last weekend He reminded Me He would give Me a break,I told Him I was quite happy playing all night and had no need for a break,I said that He could back His mate for the two songs which We allow guest singers to perform.
As he maneovered into the driving seat behind My guitar He stood on just about every cable and plug which was there.The result was a 300 watt growl from My amp and I had to move very quickly to cut the power,the amp was vibrating like nothing I have ever seen and I really think I was lucky that the speaker did not blow.
After fixing it He played the second of the two songs and when asked to vacate the seat He was a bit miffed and muttered under His breath.He and His mate left shorly after.I hope He does not return.
Not all steelies are nice people.

With regards to anybody playing my steel, there is'nt a soul on Corfu or probably the whole of Greece who could
could play it so at the moment I'm content with that !

NO i won`t let any other steelie play my steel,i did once and he dropped the bar and left a great big ding between the necks,so no more will i let any other steel player sit in.

Depends really, i wouldn't let a half cut ass up on my steel, but i was playing a packed hotel lounge bar from 1 30 am till 3 am, with John Staunton, as a duo, just last year, and in the same hotel, the McWilliam hotel, claremorris, county Mayo, a well known Country music venue, in the Ballroom, Robert Mizzel and the Country kings [one of the biggest country bands in Ireland] had finished their gig, as we started ours, The band came into the lounge bar where we were playing, we called Robert up to sing a few songs, and his steelie, Martin Cleary, [the busiest session steelie in ireland] asked me could he sit in with us, i happily obliged, i played lead, he played my steel, and it was brilliant, we did 5 or 6 songs, one of my great memories, we split the lead breaks, he was class,

I saw the Country Kings with Robert Mizzel a couple of Years ago.Awesome band.
I spoke to Martin backstage,He is a mean guitar picker too. I would have no bother letting someone like Him loose on My steel.

It would depend upon who the person was, but if it was someone I knew well and respected, I wouldn't have a problem with letting them sit in on my steel. I've never been asked yet in 40 years, although Albert Lee asked many years ago if he could do a couple of numbers on guitar. Our lead player handed his Tele over and didn't want to come back on stage afterwards for some strange reason.
