Roy - what about your Reliant Robin? That's a collector's vehicle these days. Could hunt out "ROB 1N" perhaps?

The nice thing about Mr Hartley's plate is how understated it is. Who else other than a steel player would even notice? It also has the advantage that nobody can tell old old or new the vehicle is.

I love humorous plates. Jimmie Tarbuck used to have "COM 1C" of course. Amongst the best I've personally spotted was "TOX 1C".

Locally I help out with a Community Speed Watch team and we've had "V8 H??" pass by us a couple of times, a V8 Audi presumably, but this was trumped this week by "V12 H??", a V12 Aston Martin no less!

Sorry Ken, there's always somebody around who will out do us. Not that I could care two hoots. ;) :o :geek:

How wonderful - what a brilliant way to spend one's free time. I like to play steel guitar in mine. :!: :!: :!: :ugeek:

Paul Daniels has MAG 1C on his ancient Rolls. I met him once and asked him why he put such a distinctive number plate on his motor. He said for 2 reasons. 1 - as an investment, and 2 - so that people wouldn't know how old his car was.

I saw the original poster advertising this plate for sale. I was tempted for about a half a millisecond 'cause it was cheap, and then thought Nah. What's the point? My own plates are personal to me and not to Mr Vaughn or any others.

"My own plates are personal to me and not to Mr Vaughn or any others"

Not so personal when published on the World Wide Web perhaps?

Community Speed Watch is an attempt to save lives. Some of us take it very seriously Mr Byng, including the police who train and support us. Please don't mock. Unfortunately an hour every fortnight isn't going to make any difference to anyone's musical performance unfortunately, including yours or mine.

I didn't say anything derogatory about your personalised plates, rather that I appreciated the subtlety and humour of some others.I think you rather missed the point. Please try not to be so sensitive.

For the record my surname is Vaughan.

You will find it impossible to see any published photos of my number plates on the internet. Not something I would do.

I know more about this probably than you do. One of my many jobs prior to my retirement was to oversee the installation of traffic calming and speed reduction - but only where there was prior evidence of accidents, deaths or injuries as a result of speeding vehicles. However, I would only allow trained highway technicians, politicians and police officers to participate in schemes. I would not permit members of the public to get involved as their views were usually clouded by emotion. I dislike speed traps and concealed speed cameras. They are almost always installed as income generators.

I'm pretty thick skinned. If you check back to my first post, there was a little bit of irony in it that was obviously too subtle for you.

Mr Byng,

Thick skinned? I'll let others judge. Condescending? Certainly.

Your post begs one screaming question however. Was it really official City Council policy not to consider traffic calming or speed (limit) reduction until there was evidence of accidents, injuries or ultimately deaths? Or was that your idea? Either way it seems pretty crass.

By comparison Somerset Highways seem far more enlightened. We frequently work with them for the benefit of all the community, not just the motorists. I repeat, all speed watch teams are fully trained and certificated by the police. All sites are assessed and approved by the police. We don't hide behind bushes, nor wave hair dryers. Neither do we have Highway Patrol cars hiding behind billboards. This may be the West Country, but not that far west.

Let us get back to honing our steel guitar skills, rather than wasting whatever valuable time we have left on this planet, squabbling.

As Dave Alan used to say at the end of his shows: may your god go with you.
