A very beautiful irish ballad, written by pete st. john and made famous by Paddy Reilly, about the days of deportation for common criminals to Australia, even for minor offences, it describes a young couple in love, who are seperated as he is deported, and she is left behind in Athenry, very nicely played Shakey, Athenry is in county Galway, not too far from me, the song is now by far, the most requested irish song, especially in England, and mostly by english people, it was adopted by Glasgow celtic fans as an anthem, which made it political in certain parts, though it was never intended so, and that should not detract from the sheer beauty of the music, also adopted by the Irish rugby fans, as shakey pointed out, and also by Liverpool f.c. though the scousers have changed the words to 'Anfield road'

by a lonely harbour wall, she watched the last star falling,
as the prison ship sailed out against the sky,
for she waits ,and hopes, and prays,
for her love in botany bay,
its so lonely round the fields of Athenry

nice one shakey,

I just got this from Bent Romnes who built my steel. I need say no more.

Hi Dave,
How's this for a Christmas present? I just got this email from Lloyd Green...
Now we cant really beat that now, can we?
I'll try and call you tomorrow morning (afternoon your time)

Hi Bent,

I hope you and Judy have a great Christmas and New Year too,

Those pictures of your grandchildren are simply beautiful. You are indeed a blessed man.

I looked at the youtube of Dave Seddon playing your guitar. Dave sounded fine, for sure. That steel you built him is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship with an excellent tone.

This is the most appropriate time of the year to take stock of where we are and our future dreams….and count our blessings.

Merry Christmas

Lloyd

one of the first steel guitar solos i ever played with 'MUSTANG' in and around Manchester in the early nineties, a classic, met paddy reilly a few times, very approachable, played a lovely takemine guitar, perfect gent, always insisted absolutely no reverb on the p a system, what a great voice, it carried so well,

well done shakey, you have highlighted a great song that lends itself so well to steel guitar, just know i was nearly twenty years in front of ya', but your the first to you tube it,

Nice one Dave - and you can't get any better than a compliment from Lloyd. I put Lloyd in touch with Bent originally.

Bent must be tickled pink to see his guitar on YouTube, and it has such a clear tone.
