Back on forum -lightweight amp

Postby Malcolm » Wed Dec 15, 2010 5:10 pm

Now that the forum is back in safe hands and being run as it should, I have decided to rejoin.I am sure Bob will continue to do an excellent job.
Is anybody using the little bass amp head the Gallien Krueger MB200 that is getting great reviews on the US forum? For those who have not seen it, it is a 200 watt unit weighing about 2lbs( there is a 500 watt unit ,stereo, weighing 4lbs) and sells for $249 or $499 for the 500. Together with a lightweight speaker this is a very interesting option for those of us with bad backs ( or just senile) although I put myself in the first group there will be some among you think I'm in the second.

Welcome back Malcolm, Can't keep a good man down.
Ann does not need a lightweight amp :)
perhaps these amps will be the next BIG thing. Imagine carrying a Fender Twin in Your pocket!!
Best regards

But if you still have to lug a heavy steel around, why bother with a lightweight amp ?

You've still got to make two trips to your trailer, so get a Session 500 and be done with it :D

Thanks Billy, not so sure Ann would agree with you.Richard currently off work with yet another slipped disc, have lightened up all my gear, sold the Mullen(32kgs in flight case) got a MSA Millenium, the lightest guitar I could find, carry it in gig bag for local gigs, with separate case for legs and rack, and a wheeled Scott Dixon case for van/flying gigs. The Nashville 400 is sitting gathering dust as I got a 112 from Zumbilly, so anything that makes it easier to move around is welcome.Giving serious thought to the MB200 as it is getting to stage I might have to give up gigging altogether to stop further injury to my back.I do remember when younger carrying a 500 in one hand and my flightcased steel in the other, probably the reason for my bad back

My wife can still manage 4 flights of stairs with my Webb amp in one hand and my D10 Emmons push-pull in the other!! :D

I have told her that it is more efficient to take my steel seat at the same time, but she keeps making excuses and comes back for it on a second trip. I need a younger model.
Show Pro D10 (amber) 8 + 6, MSA Signature XL D10 (redburst) 9 + 6, Sho~Bud D10 (sunburst) Pro 111 8 + 6, Emmons D10 Push Pull - (black) 8+5, Zumsteel D10 (blue) 8 + 8, Hudson pedal resonator, 10 string lap steel. Telonics, Peavey & Webb amps,

A younger model might really do my back in.When talking to some people recently they said "it must be great playing with a band, all those groupies and roadies" to which I replied "at my age I'd settle for a roadie"

I did a wee calculation for fun.
If We consider a gig as being two trips of carrying (there and back) I reckon that I have carried about 18tonnes .
If I had stuck to the kazoo(as My music teacher suggested) I would be able to jog to and from gigs.
Malcolm, sorry to hear You are suffering ,get well soon.

Malcolm, I have a friend looking for a nice condition Nashville 400. Does your amp fit that bill? Is it for sale?
I guess I should have asked if it was for sale first! Anyway let me know either way

Regards and a Very Happy Christmas
