I'm disappointed Nick thought he was the real McCoy, was hoping to get a cheap Tele from him.

Nick - I used to live in Tyne & Wear and know Jim and others quite well. He used to play a ShoBud rack and barrel S10 using some banjo rolls to great effect, but that was with the American Echoes and probably 40 years ago. He still knows how to get around a 6st. Dobro, G high bass. Try seeking "Deisil Therapy" on YouTube. That's Jim with Danny Holmes and Chris Ringer. He gigs sometimes with Martin Stephenson too, also worth a google!
Look out for the North of England Steel Guitar Festival, 8/9th August, the website should be up soon with a link from this forum. It's in my village (between Bedale and Masham, N.Yorks. so about 55 miles south of you and only four miles off the A1, so an easy trip of around an hour.
You will be welcome to come down here, any time the room in the local pub is available, for a chat and play - that applies to any steel players out there, it doesn't have to festival weekend.
Regards, Tony. :guitar: :guitar: :guitar:

Nick, you should try and get together with Tom Fletcher when he gets back from Nasville, he is a great lad and getting to be a real good player.

Wow - two offers to meet up and play!
Tony - I have been looking out for this year's North of England weekend details as I very much hope to attend. I'll keep the dates free. I'd also love to meet up and talk steel and play - although I feel it would be more of a tutorial than anything else! I'm nowhere near your level of playing or knowledge.
Similarly Tom - I'm nowhere near your standard, but it would be good to meet up and 'chew the fat'. I'll email you in a week or so to arrange something.
Thanks also for the messages of interest and support - I wish I'd taken up steel guitar years ago!

Nick - the whole concept of the festival is to get together in a friendly atmosphere and play, swap ideas, trade licks, talk and get to know each other etc. There may be experienced and/or very good players but it's not a concert, it's for everyone, any level, to have an opportunity to play and get encouragement to do so. If you check out this link you will see the reaction of one of the first timers at the last one http://www.thebritishsteeliessociety.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5885&p=25044&hilit=NESGF#p24729 hope to meet up with you before long, keep in touch anyway - best regards, Tony.

PS here's one of my favourite quotes - "I never met a guitar player I couldn't learn something from" - Chet Atkins. :D
