A musical instrument - I mean an MSA guitar - and a car!! Where is the comparison??? None at all. Like comparing a dog and a shovel. :D

Mr McMiser, its about time that you put your hand in your sporran, get rid of the moths and buy a man's guitar with an exquisite wood body with figured grain. Even a Springfield if necessary. Get something with good sonic tone that only comes with aged maple. Even Ivor the Driver has sussed that bakelite doesn't sound as good or have the dynamic range of the Giles body MSA.
Show Pro D10 (amber) 8 + 6, MSA Signature XL D10 (redburst) 9 + 6, Sho~Bud D10 (sunburst) Pro 111 8 + 6, Emmons D10 Push Pull - (black) 8+5, Zumsteel D10 (blue) 8 + 8, Hudson pedal resonator, 10 string lap steel. Telonics, Peavey & Webb amps,

A Springfield -- now you are taking the p*** Mr Bing  I bet if recordings were played to members of this forum of a Milly and ( any) good wood bodied guitar that 99.9% could not tell the difference, as per the American forum and that old chestnut on p/p vs all pull, where so many of these so called experts got it wrong. :o .Lets face it ,the average punter does not know what a pedal steel is let alone if tone is good. As long as the individual player likes the guitar they are playing then that's all that matters, as I said before on this forum, I own and play mine because I LIKE IT, not to please anybody else ;) :guitar:

Malcom.
I know your comments are a bit tongue in cheek, but hey mate! truer words never spoken, punters wouldnt know a good tone from a bad one, neither would a lot of band members.
How many of us have purchased a new dream steel and then spent ages trying to get the sound of the one we had just dumped, afterwards spending months/years wishing we still had the old one.
Ask me how I know :guitar:
A reasonable quality instrument, decent amp, volume pedal and leads and away you go, it will sound like a pedal steel guitar as far as your playing skills will allow. :)

Davie, sorry to have hijacked your post.Know you have been trying one owned by an elderly Scottish gentleman, so what are your views on the Telonics 1000, how does it stack up against your Nashville 1000? I know it has a lot of toys on it but what about basic sounds?

Malcolm
With age comes wisdom so I am probably not the Elderly Gent You mention, however I can say, from experience that the Telonics Pre 1000 is not a preamp with a lot of toys included. It has the obvious controls for Bass Mid and Treble plus a blend control,it also has a dobro effect and an on board reverb.
The amount of R and D that Telonics have done to arrive at this item(and other products) has been astounding and the final sound is exceptionally good.I have had long conversations with Davie Holland and at this time He has tried the amp in a band situation once and has been totally blown away by the sound.I will be attending the Opry this evening and am looking forward to hearing a good player put the amp thu' it's paces.I will post My thoughts tomorrow although as an owner of a pre 1000 I could be a bit biased,it even makes ME sound like a steel player :)

Billy wondered what differences there are between the 200 and 1000 apart from reverb and bro effect?

Ok here`s my thoughts on the Pre 1000.

Having set it up and dialled in a tone in the house, I thought it sounded excellent.
So on to the gig last night at the Opry with my usual 5 piece band.
The even-ness of the strings felt great with every string playing clearly, but mellow enough not to take your head off when you hit the thin ones.
A "fat" tone across the range with nice bass separation.

I pleyed last night with the Steel going into a Hilton pedal, then into the Telonics, and from the Telonics I took a feed to the Poweramp In of the Nashville 1000 (Looked weird as nothing plugged in to the front) and a second out from the Telonics to the desk with the channel flat.

I can only go by the numerous comments from regulars at the club who came up to me and commented how much my sound had changed and how sweet the guitar sounded, even over a very noisy crowd.

The only thing I changed from the settings in the house to the stage were the input and output volumes. I didnt have to touch the tone controls as it sounded fantastic to my ears.

Actually its the first time I`ve ever managed to get a good tone in the Opry.

I will be buying one of these pre-amps very soon, which leads me to my original question.

Has anyone got one they are selling? Just wondered like.....
MSA Millenium M3, a Carter and a bunch of Telonics stuff
