Video's WANTED

Postby WineRider » Thu Jan 01, 2015 10:46 am

I would like to see video's of:
Right hand with picks. Then a short vid. with the right hand playing slowly a scale (any key) then some chords (any key)

Then the left hand with the bar: Again a short vid. or with the one above showing again slowly how to do forward and reverse slants. It only needs to cover two or three frets.

So all you who have not had the proverbial balls to get involved in the discussions put your money where your mouth is and help those of us who are struggling to get to grips with some of the things that many find easy.

IS THIS TOO MUCH TO ASK???????????

With that type of attitude and comment, YES it's too much to ask, go look somewhere else, like you tube.

Well at least it managed a response, obviously you haven't been reading the previous posts.
I've had great help from you Slimbo in the past and have said so on more than one occassion. Others don't think the idea is too much. So maybe I've actually put my finger on a sore spot. It is a shame that others who are on this site never respond to anything or just sit moaning. Others on the other hand do respond, maybe not as we would like.
Thank you for your advice in the past, and by the way You Tube is not the be all and end all fix.
Have a nice day

Hell of a big ask Maurice. Doubt you'll get any takers.
There was a post on SGF today pointing out there are close ups of text book palm blocking in this

Does that help?

Hi Allan,
Happy New Year.

Yes I know it"s a big ask, but after the recent responses on the Pedal Steel side of things, I was hoping to promote a constructive response from those who read and don't post. Another of my failed miserably ideas.

I know there are more than a few books, pics and vids out there that show and don't show what I am trying to open up. But the fact remains that those with knowledge, or who are passionate about a subject should be involved in its' promotion. The problem being that stills never show you move to or from move. I have looked at your vids. but because
the camera is concentrating on the whole group, it's difficult to see just how you are moving. The same could be said for Joe Wrights stuff on Sierra guitars vids.

The "I had to learn the hard way why can't you" brigade, are missing the point entirely, either that or they are selfish, or short sighted. Life is all about helping others less fortunate than oneself, hence sites like 'Homespun Tapes' are popular...help at very little cost. But they do fall into the precocieved ideas that everyone knows what they are talking about and have the ability to read between the lines.

I have never been in the category of diplomatic and I always speak from the heart. I help anyone who ask's for it, if it is within my area of expertise and will continue to do so, even when I am shot down in flames, I will still respond. I can't hold a grudge to those who disagree with any of my sentiments...that's life. And I have taken on board all I have been told in respect of my questions. Dog eat dog, has never been my phyilosophy and never will be.

In all my years of racing, working for Fleet Street as a Snapper, the latter being the most cut-throat of businesses, asking for help for music has proved the hardest I have ever encountered, which could, answer many of the questiopns of why there is a derth of talent wishing to join the ranks of non PSG and PSG.

If I sound bitter I'm not, you and many like you have gone out their way to help me, but a minority are determined to undermine all the work you and the stalwarts of this Forum are trying to do.

Maurice, I don't have equipment or know how to do video for you, and was going to suggest the Joe Wright Stuff, but see you have had no success with that.Have you checked out Mickey Adams material on the web?. Another two possibilities are that that you contact Baz, I believe he does instruction via Skype, and you will get Quality information from him , no one better with bar slants. Other suggestion was, depending on where in country you are, contact a pro player in your area for help, eg Derek in Nottingham area, Gerry in Newbury area Ken in Southhampton area etc, then of course there are the steel meetings, Uncle Roy's Bristol Area, John Davis events St Neots area, Scottish Steelies meetings in Gartcosh, the London area meetings, there is bound to be some one at meetings who can help, sometimes five minutes of personal instruction is worth a dozen videos.
Feel free to jump in guys if you can help or suggest anything that would help.

Malcolm, thank you for your suggestions, all useful and gratefully received. Unfortunately trying to get to someone local isn't easy. I live in mid southwest France and PSG and non PSG are thin on the ground. The nearest to me is James Crowbear who lives...when he's there in the Pyrennees approx. 450klms door to door. So not exactly a neighbour.
I gather from my posting I've unitentionally trod on a few toes...such is life.
I have tried a couple of really good 'Guitar' teachers but they are in the 'that's out of my scope' understandable. Tony Russell Davis, sent me some very clear shots of his picks...fitment, shape etc. I ended up in all sorts of possitions. Slimbo (Derek) who's just given me a hard time, also gave much advice, which I tried. Allan Steelie Kelly also passed me info to try, and his info suited me better, but I still struggle. I haven't met a steelpicker locally, but did catch about 3 minutes with a PSG picker at Craponne, but I wasn't into non PSG at the time...Life's a bitch... But as I said in the recent postings "I ain't a quitter, I'll get there eventually...and woe betide any one who is still talking to me...I'll be screaming it from the rooftops.

I wasn't just mouthing off for me, but hey ho the pot was close to boiling point at one time

Maurice, think having Baz do Skype instruction would be your best option. No one knows more about non pedal (and PSG) than Baz, he is an absolute legend, and I may add a great guy, only too willing to pass on information to those who ask him.

Maurice, maybe this could be a help??

I was just reading your comments on Ken's post, "Just what is the forum for" and in some ways I agree with you. It has been suggested to me on several occasions that I should teach steel guitar and I have been asked by a few interested youngsters if I would teach them and I have refused for the simple reason I am not a teacher. I am bloody good at maths but I wouldn't have a clue how to teach it. I have on several occasions (when asked) given my ideas, hints and tips if you like about how i would play a certain phrase or how I would block, palm or pick, and other things steel related, whether they took it on board or not I don't know but I could never charge anyone for that.

There are plenty of people out there that are qualified and are worth every penny of what they charge. I wish I could have found someone when I started, I might have taken it a bit more seriously and made something of myself.
Any way Happy New Year to you all and Happy Pickin'.
