67 views and no responses! John Davis asks about apathy - is this the evidence?

Alan is an excellent steel player - pedal and non-pedal. He posts examples of his playing pretty regularly, usually to a very lacklustre response. Unless we are seen to support each other's efforts, then this forum might well decline to the point it is no longer viable, and that would be a great shame. Given how difficult it must have been in the 70's and 80's for beginner steel players, this is a really valuable resource that is a great aid to learning and developing. Yes, there are thousands of 'teachers' on YouTube, but there's nothing like direct contact with players to exchange ideas, viewpoints and to seek and give advice and look for comment. It is only through this forum that the South London Steelies got started, and we were getting 7 or 8 players attending regularly - ok, London is a pretty big pool to be fishing in, but through this forum good friendships, an opportunity to play 'live' and to learn from each other have arisen. There is usually helpful advice given by knowledgeable players when it is sought and there are regular contributors whose input I value greatly. It would be irresponsible of us all to sit back and allow the forum to decline.

More posts/posters, please! How about some tab being posted? I would post tab but don't have a scanner - I have a 'beginners' version of 'Killing me Softly' I'd happily send a copy by post to anyone who can scan it and post it on the forum. I'm sure lots of us have written out bits and pieces we could all benefit from - come on chaps (and chapesses!)

Go for Nick you are right. I also missed commenting on Alan' s track why I don't know I agree Alan is some player and he knows I think that. You go ahead and rant we need an army behind us to keep this forum and the steel guitar alive in the UK.
Alan certainly is one guy who does this.

Hi Shaun - settling in well but not much steelin' going on as I've got a bad back. However am hoping to join a singers night and just sit in - maybe in January.

Please do post up the tab - it's a bit messy but readable, I think.

Hi Alan, always nice to hear a bit of ol' Hank. You can clearly hear the classic Don Helms sound in there so it raises the much debated question, how much tone is in the hands verses the machine?

Good rant Nick! You're right of course and so is JD. I'm going to try to contribute more to the forum in future. Hope the back gets better soon.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I would say most of the tone is in the hand but a good steel and amp is obviously important. Here is a clip using two different guitars and three tunings.
