Not many old pro's John. Most love the Emmons tone, but have got used to the modern pulls of the all pulls. The man with the best live tone in the world is Mike Johnson with his red push pull. However, even Buddy used a Zum up to his retirement.

Weldon used Emmons LG's for donkeys years, but went over to Justice just before he passed. I love the tone of my PP. I just love the sound of my Show Pro a little more. :D

John, as you say it's all in the ears, having heard Papa John on his Zum at Dallas a few times , I can honestly say it did not get any better than that.I listened to one of the top Texas guys playing his Emmons ( one of the few on the main stage at Dallas) expecting great things and was sadly disappointed with his tone, probably worst I heard at show, even mine is better. On the other hand off stage in one of the rooms, I heard an Emmons, carter , MSA , and Rittenberry, all were pretty close in tone to my ears.So many different factors come into play, amp, effect, hands( probably the most crucial), I sound the same on most guitars I sit at ( and before anyone else says it --- shit).Thank goodness we are all different with differing views, who ever gets that Rains gets a great guitar. :guitar: :guitar:

Malcolm
You are dead right re Jim Loessberg's tone. Thin and razor sharp with no bottom end at all. He has underwound pickups on his guitar, and through a Fender Twin its just as thin sounding as a steel can be.

J D Maness often has a very thin tone, but this year his push pull sounded nice and full for a change.

The best tone I have ever heard at Dallas was Mike Johnson last year with his Show Pro. BUT!! if you want to know about tone, just ask The Driver (Ivor). He knows. ;)

Sorry to drift away from your sale of your Rains John. It does does sound pretty decent to my ears.

Just google star clips. There are several companies in the UK who supply different sized clips. I bought a load for my Emmons LG when I had it.

Hi John, is this the Rains that was on sale on e-bay?
What price are you asking for the Rains and can you tell me what set-up is on the guitar.
Thanks.
