July 2014 … This Machine and Our Family- Amazing!

Postby bob adams » Wed Jul 23, 2014 1:05 am

Tonight (well last night) was our July SSGW meeting! What a lovely little night.

Though less than half in number due to health, holiday and commitment reasons we were low in number but 100% on quality.
Tonight we only had Donny, John, Davy, Dougie, Willie, Yours truly! But it was great!

The caretaker of our hall was gob smacked; he had never seen a steel guitar before and certainly never experienced anything like us; didn’t know we existed! Well he does now and is about to broadcast it to all and sundry!

Though without keyboard we had some campfire moments with four of us ’sat singing’ some neat harmonies while filling and solo steeling! Some real quality and some seriously good voices, as for the steel playing we had our normal mix of hand clap and taking the rip with every note being honoured for its wow factor or complete bollocks! Great spirit and great fun!

We are now 18 months into this event and every time there has been something fresh, it is quite amazing! Though much more impromptu tonight it was a really a great evening!... In the middle of it JD phoned me and that made me feel connected to him and all his past efforts in the south! Likewise Ted who's meeting I much enjoyed in Lisburn; that was a great night! A few months back Ted came over to join us, at considerable personal expense, that was also a super night! Thanks Ted! Much Appreciated!!

JD we will get an instrument set up to suit you in the coming months, you must get up and join us!

To all you chaps who have put the effort in, JD, Ted, Roy, David, Digby, Jim (Prichard), Tony, and the South London Team… hats off to you all.

These events are a real commitment and hard work but the rewards are invaluable! Thank you to all who make the effort!

John D said to me tonight, we are losing way to many of our great players these days it is frightening.

Yip that's for sure so let's do all we can to keep PSG up there! It is all down all of us!.. No Pain! no Gain!

Bob! ;)

Bob, you throw compliments down here at us ....you know they are gonna bounce right back and slap you in the chops!!!
Not enough that you travelled all the way down from Glasgow to Bedfordshire and Duloe to Video my efforts without (if I recall correctly) ever missing one over a period of 6 or 7 years. !. Then, you invent one of the best Pedal steel sites so we can all relive those times as we want to, and learn from them.. (thanks to your photographic talent that is well beyond dispute!)
Then you give us a forum that IMHO is second to none!...... Do I need to go on??? cos I can! You are a friend to anyone that needs some Steel Guitar help, and I am proud to have you among my friends. :D

:guitar: :guitar: :guitar:

And yes I am determined to make it to the SS Guitar meeting at some time !

Oh Yeah! Everything JD said. I've got my Emmons S10 upside down at the momment giving her a de-dusting and an oil up.I'll then replace the pick up with a Telonics 409. Just to see what all the fuss is about. Then string her up with SITs' from Becky ;) Then it will be many long tuning attempts with a newly aquired Peterson HD.I can only do all this because of the information selflessly given by the many experts and kind hearts of the British Steelies Society forum members and the amazing Admin team. I bought something from a forum member this week who Emailed to say it was in the post and on it's way, and, instead of sending this person a cheque, they asked me to donate the whole sum to the Forum, which I will do after adding my donation to it. Oh Yeah! Everything John Davis said. :D I love this forum, 8-) :guitar: :guitar: I really like smilies too. :guitar: :guitar: .====. Baz.
