Doug Earnest/Zum Steel-licenced Stage One value?

Hello. I'm considering selling the above. As you know, it's an extremely highly regarded "starter" steel but even, apparently, used by some pros as their knock about workhorse. Nowt but glowing reviews for it over on the US site. Just wondering about the resale value first. With import duty and shipping etc it probably ended up costing me about £1150.

I think your about right at 1150 quid, they are one great guitar, way above a 'starter' .. I would keep it if you can. Lightweight stays in tune sounds as good if not better the some of the pro steels...

Great guitars. I like the black ones best. They will hold their value better than most. My friend Roger Rettig in Florida reckons his sounds as good as his 2 Emmons LeGrandes.

I love my Stage One so much, I bought a ZumSteel Encore! Does that sound like Victor Kiam?

Seriously, they are wonderful guitars and a joy to gig with. On many occasions I've been able to set up without having to retune. Great tone on recordings too. As others have noted: light but solid.

To answer your question, I ordered mine directly from Doug and I reckon it cost me (in 2011) $1150 + 20% (VAT) + £18 (handling), giving a total of £950. Of course, that depends on the dollar exchange rate. Like you, I am considering selling mine

Thanks guys. Yes, I have loved learning, playing and recording (a bit) with it. I just haven't got the time to dedicate to it that I'd like due to a baby son and work, so, for now, I think I'll sell it and just get a cheap lap steel for getting the basics down a bit more before going back to pedals when the boy's a bit older. I would, as you say, hang onto it but while it's not being used it's just money sitting there and babies, as well as being time consuming, are also expensive. Who knew?! I'll open the actual sale in another thread.

How heavy is the guitar in the case?
Can the set be changed?

If you mean the copendent then no, that's set and cannot be changed, which is the only real criticism you'll find written about this guitar. Not sure on weight. I'll get back to you on that. The case is pretty solid.

They said you couldn't change the copedent on a carter starter but I did it on two of 'em from Emmons to day!!

I recently visited with Geefresh and I can tell you this Stage One is in immaculate condition,It would be a nice purchase instead of a student model IMHO.
