Jerry Douglas is a great and incredible player of resonator guitar. But........have a listen to Tommy White sometime. He is just astounding on Dobro, and to my mind even surpasses the great JD. No, not John Davis!!!

Our own JD with a resonator guitar - Now that paints a picture. Sorry John.

I just love Jerry Douglas' sound and as everyone knows - such a nice guy. One of the key elements in his sound is the guitar he uses - very very expensive and built on the lines of a very good acoustic. I've played a Dobro (I do mean the brand) and there just didn't seem to be the volume, and the metal resonators are a bit harsh sounding. His guitar has depth and is clear as a bell and sounds very sweet.

As all agree there are a lot of really good resonator players out there but for me he is the one.

Here is another player in the mould of Jerry Douglas. He has a few clips on YouToob.

Randy Khors is more of a blues player than Jerry D who is a far more classic resonator player with influence in American and European folk/bluegrass music. I have a bluegrass CD that is absolutely top drawer, and Tommy White's resonator playing is just astonishing. I think it is his original 'out of the box' playing that gets me. He hasn't tried to copy Jerry D, even though he could easily replicate some of Jerry's blistering runs. Tommy is a great 6-string guitar player too.
