cheers bob, i think i know what you mean? i'll set it up as described then take a pic so you or someone can tell me if ive got it right or not...this will help with the over hang of the tuning headstocks, but wont it be a very high action?

i thought id strip the mullen board off of the raised plank it was on...it seems to work better with the nut etc but i need to know where to place the headstock/s...heres 3 pics i took at work...are they ok or in the wrong place? i know they have to go flush up against the nut...BOB i tried what you suggested but the action was about 1.5" high? surely this isnt right?...cheers terry

One observation-
The headstocks? the way you have them set out in the pics may cause a bit of angled string tension on the nut.
Difficult to advise from a pic, but in laymans terms. If you move the pointed ends (the horns) in a little 1/2-3/4 each, leaving the ends nearest the nut as they are now, it would place less angled strain at the nut.
What your trying to acheive is - lining up the string pole (bit with the hole in) as close in line with the corresponding groove in the nut. Does that make sense?

cheers dave, yeah i thought the same thing, i was looking at my lap and accoustic guitars, they seem to have the whole in the 1st tuning pole in line with the 2nd string ie i play C6 cegace...so the bottom e [string 5] lines up with the 1st pole? then they splay outwards towards the top! does that make sense???

UPDATE!...Not much mechanicly has been done, i'm waiting for a fella to help with some drilling for fixings etc... BUT i have been busy sanding and shaping the plank into summat i like the look of! ive so far gone through 3 grades of sandpaper last was 100[whatever that means?]couple more should do it? Ive taken away the sharp edges and replaced them with a nice gentle curve...i have also made the new space for the new pots/switches/jack socket...i was toying with the idea of spray painting or varnishing, but i really like the look and feel of the wood as it is...so another question...what can i use to keep the natural wood look/feel, but sealed and protected?...and yet another question...in the recent pic's [1-13] youll notice where the pots/switches used to be? i need to fill this with something better than polyfilla so any suggestions? thanks for reading terry... ps...hopefully some pic's to follow if my pc will allow it!
